Can we talk about Brad Stevens inconsistent rotations and lack of faith in young players?

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
erm, he's been pretty liberal with young guys lately. How much time have Rozier, Hunter, Young and Mickey gotten lately? He even put Mickey in before Zeller tonight.

Don't agree with you on this one.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

by young players, you mean like marcus smart who averaged 27 minutes in his rookie and again in sophomore year?

next, why do you think it is a lack of faith as opposed to an assessment that other players bring more to the court? and, as the kiddies gain more experience in the dleague, isnt their minute count starting to go up the past few games?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

People here said the same thing about Doc. It is an easy thing for armchair quarterbacks to criticize.

And how many of those young guys was Doc wrong about?

Unfortunately there is always an excuse. DA can't draft, CBS/Doc can't develop guys, the players are bad. Sure the team has done fairly with some picks but I completely agree that there are too many failures for my liking too. Especially out the ridiculous amount of picks and moves DA has made. I think it all comes down to luck at this point. Luck a guy's talent/skill isn't maxed out. Luck that a guy is a good fit in the system. Luck that another team's gm helps you out. And the biggest thing is on the luck that moves made 3 years prior finally have a reward worth while.

Not gonna be popular but we should have tanked last year.  We'd at least have a young talent to build around or use as a trade asset.  And james young, [dang] what a waste.

So you think we should not have picked up IT? Who else should we have traded away in order to lose more games?

To the original question, No.

Retrospective management and coaching can make everybody a champion and, yes, in the cut throat and risky business of the NBA, sometimes players get missed or are duds.

I think CBS manages selection and every small detail as well as could be expected. The phrases 'over achieve' and 'punching above their weight' have been spoken about this team largely because CBS gets so much right. I know he couldn't have made any different moves the last few games to change the results. Except go all JC on JC and cure his injury.

I expect Rozier may get more minutes over the next few games but I doubt he becomes starting PG and he is probably back to the Red Claws when Crowder is back. Miracles take time.

We have plenty of good talents that will be on rookie contracts for at least one more season: Kelly, Rozier, Mickey, Smart... How many are we supposed to have?

So you're suggesting we have consistent rotations made up primarily of rookies and James Young?  That's what D League is for.

Coaches don't win Games or Championships. It's all about the talent you have on the roster.
This Team has very good depth and good reserve or role type players. Until you land Star talent, it's a .500 team.

Really a baseless comment now, during the beginning of the season we had some inconsistent rotations and lack of faith in the young.   The young guys have been playing more.   We also have inconsistent rotations due to injuries right now.  The young guys are playing some now.

We really miss Crowder, too, none of the young guys can bring what he brings to the table.

CBS is not perfect, no one is, but he is doing this for a living with a great deal of success on multiple levels.

I don't think that it was necessarily either/or though.

Both Smart and IT, among others (I think Sully?) were injured at some point in time during the last 30 or so games. They could've been "rested" longer, Young (the chump that he is) and others been force-fed minutes and we could've lost a few more and gotten Winslow/MTurner.

This has been debated endlessly on this board. Wyc and Stevens wanted us in the playoffs and they (and many on here)  got what they wanted. Danny (and many others on here) didn't.

Personally, I fall in the "I'd rather have gotten Winslow or Turner than made the playoffs camp".

There is nothing Brad Stevens can do about:

1) Smart being unable to shoot

2) Crowder being unable to play

3) Jerebko being unable to play

4) Amir being unable to play more than 25 minutes

We could also talk about how Bill Belichik and Tom Brady aren't perfect or how Superman crumbles in the presence of kryptonite
