Dunn: in principle, I'm in favour of drafting the best player available... but he is too similar to Rozier.

Unless Danny thinks he is an outstanding prospect, not much point in getting a third PG and risking a Reggie-Jackson-in OKC situation.

I wouldn't worry too much about a Reggie-in-OKC situation.

Is Rozier an NBA rotation player?  Hard to say.  Seems likely he's a CJ Watson-esque combo guard at best, which means you don't necessarily want him as the primary ball-handler.

Is Smart a primary ballhandler?  Hard to say.  I think he's a bigger version of Patrick Beverley.  At best on offense he's Eric Gordon.

With all of that in mind, Dunn looks like much more of a pure point guard prospect.  If he's the best guy available at #6, he probably becomes the backup ballhandler out of the gate, with Evan Turner moving on in free agency.

Drafting a backup ballhandler at #6 could actually make sense if that guy has above-average-starter upside (e.g. Reggie Jackson).  By the time Dunn is finishing his rookie contract, Isaiah Thomas will be on the wrong side of 30.

So, draft Dunn, let Turner go in free agency, and we have a guard rotation of Thomas / Bradley / Smart / Dunn next year, with Rozier and Hunter as depth in case of a trade or injuries.

In a couple years, Bradley might move on if he's not traded already (since Smart and Rozier duplicate his role), and Dunn could move into the long term starter role once Isaiah begins to decline.

All of that said, I'd much prefer for the Celts to get a really nice prospect at center or on the wing, but if Dunn is clearly the best guy at #5 / #6, I think the Celts should take him.

I think it would be hard to complain if we ended up with Buddy at five or six.  I think that kid has a very good chance at being a star on the next level.  He just strikes me as someone who will be able to score at whatever level he plays.

I guess he could turn out to be just a role player, but there's also a chance that if you pass on him in the top ten, he'll eventually make you look like a fool.

I'm on the Buddy bandwagon.

Murray, or Poeltl for me.

Murray because I think he has a chance to be the type of go to scorer we need. He has a great feel for the game and gets to his spots, whenever he wants. He would get so many quality looks in our offense.

Poeltl because he's a true center, and we haven't had a good one of those in a while. He reminds me a lot of Bogut, great touch around the hoop, good size and quickness. True centers have given us problems, but with the way the NBA is trending I'm not sure drafting a true center is a great investment. If he can learn to shoot he could be extremely good.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

This
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I like both Murray and Poetl
But chose Murray because of his versatility as a PG and SG

I'd rather have Buddy than Murray, too.  Better shooter, better scorer, has drawn more attention from opposing teams.

I'm crossing fingers we get a crack at jaylen brown. that'd be huge.

Of the lower guys, Poetl is the only one I've watched much of. He seems solid, if unexciting. I wouldn't be opposed. We haven't had a well rounded center in so long.

What if he's just Marcus Thornton?

What if he's Steph Curry?

Come on, that's all you've got?  You've got to have a better post than that.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I think Buddy has shown more of an ability to get to the hole than Murray. I'm not sure that Murray will be able toncreate as freely in the NBA without a quick first step.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

There's undoubtedly risk, but I would argue that's the case with anyone in the draft--even the young Australian super star who is the consensus number one pick.

Did Buddy show a lot of ability getting to the hoop in his freshman year though?

.

That's a good point.  I would even venture to say that Buddy has shown more ability to get to the rim late in his senior year than at the beginning.

Jamaal Murray is ridiculously polished offensively for a college freshman.

The more I think about it, I don't think I'd hate landing either of those two shooting guards in the upcoming draft.
