I know he hasn't made any big moves this season but I feel like the exec from the Warriors won it last year for moves made in past seasons (His smartest move was the one he didn't make when he held onto Klay Thompson).

I feel like the moves Ainge made in the past are paying off now.  I think we can all agree hiring Stevens was a home run -  and no one could have predicted he would have been the hire. IT has obviously been phenomenal considering the low price we paid.  And Crowder was considered a throw in by many.  If you told me we would be on track for 48 wins with this roster, I would have laughed.  But Ainge has done a great job with limited resources.

Thoughts?

"great job with limited resources"

Huh.  Ainge has been the GM for years, if he has limited resources it is because he gave himself limited resources.

I would guess that the executive of the year will come from the Raptors, Spurs, Mavericks, or Pistons.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

No chance he gets it this year, he hasn't really made any moves..
Hopefully next year is another story.

I should clarify - I meant that we are not a team that can attract big name free agents

I don't think Ainge will win it this year because he has not made any major moves this last offseason or throughout this season. But I do think he has done a good job turning the team around so fast. There are moves I disagree with that he has done but overall he has done a solid job. Most Notably the Brooklyn and Dallas trades. I also think it's possible the Memphis pick ends up being a pleasant surprise and he got a good haul for Crawford and Wright. Not to mention the Isaiah trade!

I dont think its an award he wants to win. GM's might further not want to trade with him.

IMO it should be Buford.  The Spurs have put themselves in a position where the best player in franchise history is set to retire and they're going to keep right on contending when he's gone.  That's incredible.

Danny is doing a good job, but the real "___ of the year" candidate for this organization has to be Brad Stevens.  This collection of talent has no business being a 3 seed, weak conference or not.  Nearly everybody in the rotation is overachieving, relative to career norms.

says who?

C's haven't had the financial cap room to go after top FAs.  we'll see how he does this offseason but there's only a few top FA's and there's a serious debate as to which ones we should bother pursuing regardless of financial ability to do so.

They had the $ this offseason that passed and struck out. Ended up with AJ.

Why should DA win Exec of the Year for things he did last year, i.e. sign Turner and trade for Crowder and Thomas?

I give Stevens a lot more credit for how the team has fared than to Danny.  I think Danny was just putting together assets, Brad turned them into a team.

You don't think we are a better draw this year than last year? Our team record indicates that we probably are going to have a stronger pitch for potential free agents.

No one is trying to join an upstart 7 seed people aren't sure are for real. This year we have proven that we are in fact for real.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

That wasn't the point. It was that C's have had $ to get guys and have not drawn people. Now if you believe this year will be different I can't change your opinion. I actually hope you are right. What I do know is this FA impactful group is a lot smaller than last year's so I am very much worried.

Last years tank late (last 3 weeks) debate/talks were heavily argued against by be claiming FA draw and draft trade up were possible. C's failed at both so call me skeptical that things will go the teams way so easily.

I think he's a fine candidate for it. I'm not a huge fan of awarding it to the team that landed the best FA that offseason.

Buford, Ainge, or Olshney
