His ability of moving without the ball is one of the best I've seen from a rookie in a while. He runs a great pick and roll.
What are you basing this on? The D-League? He runs a "great" pick and roll for the NBA? There is no way he touches Zeller in either category. Zeller has glaring weaknesses but this is where he has real skill and Mickey hasn't shown anything close.
Not that he has gotten the minutes but I think you're basing that off no real evidence. Unless you count the D-League, where yeah he looked like he could do it, but so do a lot of guys that can't even make an NBA roster.
To me there are two things Mickey can do right away: block shots and score garbage points. Anything else I don't see him doing well right now. Zeller can contribute much more in his areas at this moment I believe. Zeller is strong in the pick and roll (with the ability and size to finish, pop, and draw in defenders to give others good looks), runs the floor very well, can score some garbage points, and is seven feet tall. Those are all helpful factors. Again, I say that as someone who is pretty down on Zeller.
This reeks of the old obsession for a "rim protector" that his board has. As if that was always the last thing to put us over.
I think next year Mickey can get some minutes but he is not ready. I'm also someone who has been quite critical of Stevens for not playing some younger players over veterans but this is just not a case of that being a mistake.
