ET and the team seem to be getting more and more "love' from national outlets.

Last night on NBA TV, right after our heart-pounding game, one of the commentators said: "...they have something special going on in Boston...all the players really like each other and enjoy playing for and with each other"

And this on ET specifically from NBA.com:

Quote
Key Moment

Every other player on the floor quit. Evan Turner did not.

With 1:35 remaining in the game and the Celtics trailing by three, Langston Galloway attempted to make a pass to Brook Lopez down on the left block. Turner got a piece of it, and the ball bounced toward the left corner of the court and was on its way out of bounds.

That’s what everyone outside of Turner was thinking. No. 11, however, played to the whistle.

Turner somehow chased the ball down and flung it behind his back to Jared Sullinger. Sullinger then quickly tossed a perfect outlet pass to Jae Crowder for an easy layup in transition to make it a one-point game.

Turner wasn’t done. He’d later go on to hit a go-ahead bucket at the 36.4-second mark to give the C’s their first lead since it was 73-71 early in the third quarter. He’d also toss the inbound pass to Avery Bradley and set the cross-pattern-type screen that would free Bradley for the game-winning bucket on a driving layup with 17.7 seconds left on the clock.

“He does a lot for us,” Brad Stevens said after the game. “We probably don’t win this game without him.”

That’s a fact, and it has a lot to do with the hustle play Turner made with 95 seconds left in the game.

Nice to see ET and the team getting the props they deserve.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Evan Turner has blown me away with his improvement and I must say I was one of his biggest detractors at the start of his tenure here.
Even at the start of this season he made me yell at the TV with his turnovers and horrid shot selection and his hatred of passing the ball to Marcus Smart.
I thought he was basically going to end up as trade fodder but boy has he proved me completely wrong.

*his defense has improved immensely.
*his decision making as the ball handler has improved immensely.
*rather than attempting to finish at the rim like had done for the earlier majority of his career, he's found an excellent balance of taking the 'Turner' 5-8 feet jumpshot and mixed it up with his layup finishes- making it much harder for defenders to commit to him around the basket and giving up a tonne of open looks to team mates and shooters on the 3 pt line.

I'm honestly dumbfounded at how much he's improved and it's a testament to both him and Brad Stevens. He's accepted his bench role, he's started passing the ball more and he's taking much better overall shots.

I'd say he's a pretty crucial signing for us as our 6th man and I hope that he hires a shooting coach in the offseason. He seems to love it in Boston and he loves Stevens.
If Evan Turner can expand his game and start shooting the 3 at over 35% he could be one of the best bargain contracts in the league.
I think Danny will throw something like 4 or 5 years and 30-35 million at him and see if he bites.

My apologies Evan. You have proven many of us absolutely wrong about you and I love it.
If I could compare Evan Turner to another NBA player, I'd say he's like a poor man's DeMar DeRozan. Can't shoot, but gets to the paint and finishes pretty well. Doesn't get to the line like DeRozan, but finishes those 5 ft jumpshots better than pretty much anyone else in the NBA.
If he can somehow improve his shooting from beyond the arc he'd be one of the better point forwards in the NBA because he's become an all round two way player- valuable on both ends.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Depends on the price.

If he commands more than $10 million per, I think we have to let him walk. I love what he brings, and I love what his role is. I think he can flourish in that 6th man, Swiss army knife role, but paying him 8 figures is probably paying him too much.

Love to retain him, somewhere at a Jae Crowder type contract.

There is mutual benefit here.  He's been great for the Celtics, especially this year, but CBS has also been great for his career.  I think there's a real good chance that he stays.

Scary thought and Sully is right there with Turner too.

Not a must.

For the right price, sure.  But I don't see a reason to overpay ET to stay here.  Especially if upgrades are going to be available via the draft, FA, or trade market.

Turner fits with what BS trying to do

I don't see who you draft/trade for/ or sign that do what he do

So he going to get paid

5/45 would be a deal

he is a big factor for us coming off the bench. I can see him earning 10-13 million this offseason.

Would a bench player making 10-13 mil a year cause tension in the locker room?
IT, JC, AB all make 7-8 mil a year.
Not saying it would but you'd have to wonder..
Well, I just factored in the 30% cap spike. I think they all would make roughly the same percentage of the cap, at the time they signed their contracts.

Question is though, is his good play due to Brad stevens coaching him up and the celtics system?? he could easily go back to the player that couldnt get signed by anyone that the C's took a chance on if signed by another team.

it reminds me of the Patriots and how every time one of their players reaches free agency the rest of the league fawns all over them and offers big money...and then the player underperforms on their team and they cant understand why. alot of it is the system and coaching.

I think the same might be with turner.

Turner is good. He was known as a good defender coming in to the NBA and i think Brad has gotten him to play hard on that end. He has been making better decisions lately and is money from 10 to 14 feet. 4 years 36-40

For Chief ... it 's a "MUST"

You know it. Max contract!

Seriously,  at some point we have to upgrade our talent and then let the superior talent be coached by CBS.

Cbs coaching has made Crowder, Turner, It4, Bradley... all better player. What could he do with a superstar?

First goal is to get superstar type talent. We've got the money and draft picks to cash in on 1 or 2. Then we can worry about the bench players like Turner.

Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Turner should be a back up plan. Sure he has been invaluable on this team, but if re-signing him is so expensive that it cuts into our ability to sign a star then it's 100% not worth it.

With the success Turner has had here in a role perfect for him, I expect him to take a Jae Crowder like deal for small money to stay in Boston.

We need to be aiming higher than Turner in the offseason, then hopefully we can have him back if we can't do better.

I'd like to sign him to a short-term deal similar to Amir's. Assuming we don't make a big move this offseason, we should be preserving cap space for the star-studded 2017 FA class. I'd support giving him the same deal we gave Amir: $12m/1yr guaranteed + $12m team option on the 2nd year. That way we retain the ability to sign 2 max FA's.

there's better SF/SG's in the league if we can acquire one we should get 'em. but Turner has earned a spot on this team esp. if he has another good playoff run.

I say don't overpay at all and hope he realizes he's probably in the best situation for himself.
