PG Mike Conley
SG Bradley
SF George
PF Davis
C  Favors

Bench

Smart PG/SG, Ryan Anderson PF, Justice Winslow SF

This team would have 3 guys to rotate on Curry in AB, Smart and Conley. They should also be able to dominate GS on the boards while also having multiple small ball lineup options.
Mavs
Wiz
Hornet

Looks like Paul George, Anthony Davis, and Rudy Gobert are popular answers.

Turner and Smart are popular bench answers.

How about:

Reggie Jackson, Jae Crowder, Paul George, Anthony Davis, Rudy Gobert

Bench:

Smart, Turner, Dudley, E. Davis, Olynyk

Monroe, Whiteside, Holiday are sneaky bench player answers.  I appreciate the clever answer, though the spirit of this challenge is to choose bench players who aren't de-facto starters for their teams.  That's a blurry line though.  Turner plays a lot of minutes for the Celts, after all.

 C - A.Horford, K.Koufos
PF - P.George, J.Jerebko
SF - K.Middleton, K.Singler
SG - E.Fournier, A.Burks
PG - G.Hill, P.Mills B.Jennings

George Hill at the PG to defend Steph Curry. Patty Mills as a change of pace PG off the bench. Al Horford as the skilled big. Big two guards and small PFs who can interchange between positions. A legit center as backup center. George as main scorer. Horford as facilitator. Horford, Middleton, Fournier and Hill all capable of being 15ppg threats.

Not sure I trust Fournier, Burks, Singler, Middleton to play the kind of perimeter defense you need against the Warriors.

Patty Mills breaks the "No Spurs / Warriors / Thunder / Cavs" rule, though I do love me some Patty Mills.

That team has plenty of firepower though.  Great spacing.  I'm not sure you've got enough ball-handling, as I don't think there's a primary ball-handler on your roster.

Patty Mills was meant to be that (when needed). I'll go Brandon Jennings instead.

The starting lineup has more of a by committee approach to ball-handling with the offense running through Horford off the elbows.

I thought about Reggie Jackson as starting PG but it felt like too much cash needed to put that starting 5 in place.

Well lucky for you I didn't make money a point of consideration in this exercise :D

In theory I think Reggie could be a good candidate at point guard for this challenge since he's big, rebounds well, and isn't an All-Star despite his scoring prowess.  On the other hand, I'm not sure how good he is on defense.  Haven't watched him enough.

Easy

(PG) Rubio
(SG) Tony Allen
(SF) Paul George
(PF) Anthony Davis
(C) Hassan Whiteside

Rubio is the highest rated defensive PG in the nba. Shocking but he is. Tony Allen is still by far the best defensive guard. We should minimize their guards to an extent.

Trouble is you've still gotta make shots on the other end.  I think you need a penetrating ball-handler against the Warriors.  Somebody who can put Stephen Curry in the pick and roll and tire him out on that end whenever possible.  A player who can attack the rim and take advantage of the lack of trees inside when the Warriors go to their death lineup.

Fun exercise.

PG:  Chris Paul
SG:  Khris Middleton
SF:  Jae Crowder
PF:  Anthony Davis
C:  Karl-Anthony Towns

PG:  Marcus Smart
SG:  Will Barton
SF:  Paul Pierce
PF:  Ryan Anderson
C:  Bismack Biyombo

Decided to determine 'starter' or 'bench player' based on number of games played at each, not based on current status - so no Monroe or Whiteside coming off the bench.

Used my "star points" at PG and either PF or C.  Tried like hell to talk myself out of CP3 (Lowry and Lillard were both options) but, though I don't like him, I do think he's the best point in the game not named Curry or Westbrook.  IMO Middleton and Crowder are about as good as you get on the wings without dipping into the All-Star pool.  Wanted to use either Anthony Davis or Demarcus Cousins as my other star.  Decided to take AD, largely because I felt KAT was better (both in terms of fit and talent) than any not-star PF I could think of to slot in with DMC.

On the bench, Smart IMO is a no-brainer - his job is to make Curry or Thompson as miserable as possible while he's on the court.  Bench scoring comes from Barton, Anderson and Pierce.  Biyombo is an interior defender and rebounder - probably doesn't see a ton of minutes behind AD, KAT and RA but will do his job when called upon.

Flexible team that isn't anchored down by any undersized guards or plodding centers and can therefore adapt its lineup to fit the situation.  The mobility of AD and KAT should force Bogut out of the game and open up the lane for drivers.  CP3 will make Curry defend, find open shooters on the wings and make the young interior stars better.  The length in the paint will allow the perimeter defense to play aggressive and limit the airspace of Curry and Thompson as much as possible.

EDIT:  Keep going back and forth about the pace I want this team to play at.  I want them to run off of misses for sure, but I think I have a lot of weapons capable of creating looks in half-court sets and I can also control the glass against GS - especially if Bogut proves unable to keep up with KAT when transition opportunities do occur.

Starters:
Chris Paul
Jimmy Butler
Jae Crowder
Derrick Favors
Karl-Anthony Towns

Bench:
Corey Joseph
Marcus Smart
Omri Casspi
Kelly Olynyk
Hassan Whiteside

The starters are all two way players. The backcourt is good enough to compete with the Splash Brothers and will give them hell defensively. Paul would have to stay on Curry, but everyone else can switch. The bench has, for the most part, several really good one way players. I think they definitely need a defensive anchor at Center (Whiteside) to keep GS out of the paint. Smart and Joseph is another fearless and pesky defensive backcourt. Everyone on this team could be mixed and matched as well.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Conley - Smart
Harden - Turner
Middleton -  Winslow
Davis - Olynyk
Towns - Monroe

All 5 starters have great 3 point shooting ability. The bigs provide great defense as well as stretch the floor. Good balance of outside shooting and driving/post play. Bench provides a great defensive impact, aside from Monroe. Tried my best not to include many celtics, but our bench seems as good as it comes.

C - Gobert, Biyombo
PF - Davis, Anderson
SF - Crowder, Ross
SG - Butler, Burks
PG - Rondo, LaVine

All Stars - Butler, Davis

Gobert and Davis form the ultimate interior defense and force GS to play bigger in order to guard them on the interior (and thus forcing Bogut and the lesser shooters to play more).  Rondo, Butler, and Crowder play intense harassing defense on Curry, Thompson, and Barnes, while Butler and Crowder hit down the outside shots to help keep pace with GS on the other end of the floor.  The second unit gets the interior defense of Biyombo and the excellent shooting of Anderson down low and the versatile offensive games of Ross, Burks, and LaVine in the backcourt.  This team is young and fast and will keep up with the Warriors on both ends of the floor.
I will make another team with zero overlap

C - Cousins, Dieng
PF - Anthony-Towns, Olynyk
SF - George, J. Green (on the bench in LA)
SG - Allen, E. Turner
PG - Hill, Smart

All Stars - Cousins, George
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
