Dont get me wrong, I love Coach Stevens and how he gets so much out of his guys, but somethings been bothering me alot about his big rotations this year. All year long we have been thoroughly roasted in the paint by opposing bigs, especially when he chooses to play guys like jonas jerebko and tyler zeller in key points of the game.. I just dont see the rationale of playing them.
Let me take that back, because i do know why he plays jerebko at the 4 alot. Brad likes to do alot of switches and really likes guys that can play the stretch 4 so naturally jerebko fits that mold. But to me jerebko is just the wrong guy for the job. Im constantly seeing jonas switch wayyy too early and when he does switch he just gets cooked by anyone smaller, and then on offense he takes horrible shots, its frustrating to watch. It would be different if he could make up for it on offense like Olynyk but it's just not the case here.
Then there's zeller... I loved what he brought to the table last year but this year he's been extremely inconsistent. At first I thought well the guy is getting PT so randomly it's hard to be consistent but now that he's a main fix in the rotation I find that he's worse. Constantly tripping and falling all over himself and I have never seen a 7footer be less disruptive in the paint than this guy I dont get it. And whats worse is I find Stevens will play him over Amir alot.
I really wish we could have pulled the trigger on a trade to get Thad Young in green or another stretch4 but for now I would like to see more Mickey and less jerebko and zeller. Obviously the Olynyk injury factors in alot here as well. But for as good as our defense is in the frontcourt, its just as bad if not worse in the backcourt. I dont know maybe Im nit picking here but whats the rest of Celts nation think? I need some celts talk to keep me busy until thursday.
