Choosing Howard over Shaq seem off to me, though.

best, no, but statistically he probably rates higher than the better players as a Sixer.

I mean you could easily argue the "best" Sixer is Hal Greer who is the all time leader in games, minutes, FG's, points, fouls, and who is 2nd in assists, 6th in rebounds, 4th in win shares, etc.  He is in the HOF and was a key member of a title team as well, so it wasn't like he was just some role player.

Now sure, Wilt, Moses, Dr. J, Sir Charles are likely all better players than Iverson (and certainly are all better than Greer), but none of those guys had the length of time as a Sixer as Iverson did.  And it isn't like Iverson wasn't a league MVP, scoring champ, etc.

Think of it this way, Garnett was clearly a better player than Pierce throughout their careers, but Pierce was a much better Celtic historically speaking.

The Timberwolves / KG logo is awesome! That should be the new NBA logo.

I just think it is clearly Dr. J.  I get the "this guy played his career here and here are his numbers" factor but that just isn't that relevant to me and I don't think the logic jives even within this write up, with Jabbar being chosen over Robinson for the Bucks.

Not that I'm losing sleep over this.  It's just a blog post. I say that as a fan of AI too.  A great player.

82-83 is what the 76ers should celebrate.  Absolute dominance.  It's what I always think of at least.  One of the most impressive teams and runs in all of sports.

Did Iverson even play more of his career in Philly than Dr J did?

Iverson left to play in Denver for a few years. Retired early. What did he play? 8 seasons in Philly? Did he really play that much more than Dr J?

Edit: Looked it up. Iverson had 10 full seasons in Philly and bit parts of two others (15 games + 25 games, total of 40 games = half a season) and overall Iverson played 722 games for Philly. Dr J played 11 seasons in Philly and played 836 games.

Ah interesting.  Only furthering his case, I think.

He had less games, but ended up with more total points and a significantly higher ppg average.  And while Iverson had 114 less games he actually played 1200 more minutes than Erving did.

And had less success.

Most over 20 years old franchises will have two guys to debate over. No big deal if it's AI or DJ. Unless you guys just want to debate for the fun of it today.

Well isn't that the point of such things?
