Mitchell is smart.  Let the Celts beat us by the 3. Play as tight individually as possible but also stay zone.  Don't overchase around screens etc. Don't let Thomas get into the paint.

If the Celts had someone who can work the post and then eventually demand a double team, things open up quite a bit

We have nobody on the team that can score 1 on 1 downlow. then be smart enough to feel the double team and pass

Come on. This is stating the obvious. We need a big.

Don't want to get into who would be the best fit but any competent big, with legit length, would help us.

No doubt.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

Yeah, I've been saying for a while now that we REALLY need a more traditional big man who can demand double teams in the post.

However I don't think that a guy like Jefferson or Okafor would be the answer, because I feel we also need rim protection just as desperately.

The Jazz game the other day showed just how much an impact that has, because Gobert pretty much eliminated out entire offense by intimidating us out of the paint and forcing us to become a jump-shooting team.  We need a guy who can have that type of impact (even if it is on a far lesser scale) when playing against teams who like to get into the paint like Toronto (Derozan and Lowry) and Cleveland (Lebron and Kyrie).  I feel having that rim protector takes our team to the next level.

That's why I was so big on Howard, despite the obvious risks involved.  He's not a dominant rim protector like he once was, but he's still a very good one.  Not a dominant scorer like he once was, but can still command double teams.  Still a very dominant rebounder.

But alas it never happened, and given the obvious risks with Howard (both health and personality) I can understand that.

Where do you get these ideas?  The Celtics put up 122 points against the Wolves and have scored 110+ points in 15 of the last 21 games.  Do you actually think either of those lane cloggers could have helped this team offensively?  The reason the C's lost is because the defense was awful as it has been for quite a while.

This is not about scoring 122. It's also about how to control the pace of the game.

Wolves killed us in transition

Towns will be better than either of them......

Neither Big Al or Okafor could stop them in the NBA.

We scored 122 points and lost. I'm not sure that offense was the problem.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Triboy what is your obsession with Al Jefferson?  He sucks now. He's almost cooked. Doesn't defend at all.

I agree that Okafur would work here and so would 2008 Al Jeff but big al is a stiff now.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Honestly if we get beat up down low, you have to use the right players trying to contest that.
I thought Brad realized that when he played Mickey at the end of 2nd quarter.
To me it is very simple, we needed a guy like Mickey last night. If he's not good enough yet, that's on Danny (for not providing the right players), not on Brad and certainly not on the other players.
Why trying to put up a miracle each time we get beat up down low, that makes no sense.
Release Mickey, [dang]it lol

This.  It was a p*ss poor defensive performance by the Celtics.  Towns was owning them down low. Overall, the interior defense was lacking.  Defensive sieves like Jefferson or Okafor wouldn't have helped matters last night.

Please no Al Jefferson...

The sam thing I was thinking after that odd loss against the Bucks, but I thought about another Al. Horford. Hes playing really well. Last night v. GSW he had 23 pts, 16 rbs, 6 ast and 5 blk. Imagine if we had someone to block five shots...to bad we didn't get him before the deadline, for some reasonable price...
