I am a bit surprised that there has not been news of him being bought out yet (Since they have already parted ways with Bargs). Is there a chance they keep JJ?

I also don't really understand why the cut Bargs. I thought he was playing for close to the minimum. It is not like he thought he was signing up with a contender when he reached a contract with him this offseason? Why would they get rid of him now?

Still could happen.  Marks just got there.   Looks like the playoff eligibility deadline is March 1st so they have about a week to get something done.

I guess the question is how much is there an incentive on the BKN end to negotiate a buyout?

Apparently Joe doesn't want to leave Brooklyn though.

They would likely do it if he left a lot of money on the table, but what's his incentive to do so?  He'll probably keep the money this year and then sign with a contender in the offseason for around the vet minimum
I'm bitter.

I think he is just happy living in NYC; I think he is one of those types of guys. Can't blame him, NYC is a great place.

I'm rooting for him to stay there and get himself a two-year deal that compensates him well.  Keep dollars away from more effective players.

I think players who get bought out don't sign big deals elsewhere, one because it's common sense for new teams not to shell out $$$ for someone already making $$$, and two because I think there's some restriction against it.

I think Johnson sees it being more profitable staying in BKN. If winning big was a priority I don't think he would've resigned there years ago. The East is LeBron's conference, the West fluctuates (Thunder, Mavs, Spurs, Spurs, GSW coming out of the West is pretty good fluctuation if you ask me). He probably wouldn't have stayed out here if he wanted to really win. Imagine MEM from a couple years ago with Johnson, or even the Mavs. Both teams could've achieved more..hell Memphis could've gone to the WCF without Johnson had Randoplh not been suspended Game 7 vs OKC.

ANDDDD, just like that, it's been reported that BKN and Johnson are pursuing a buy out.

@ESPNSteinLine: Sources tell ESPN several playoff teams (Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Houston, Miami, OKC and Toronto) are already in pursuit of Joe Johnson

I'd take Joe at the Vet Min. He can still shoot and has a clutch gene

Given the chance he may be bought out does that mean he won't play tonight vs the Suns?

That would be BIG if he did not play.

Is there any way he doesn't end up in CLE?

If he wants more money...

Boston and Atlanta can offer the full room exception while Cleveland can only offer the veteran minimum.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Can't CLE use money from one of their trade exceptions?

OKC seems like a viable option as well.

It would be great to see him come back to Boston and bolster our playoff run, but for himself, I think Miami is a better fit. He will get more minutes and more shots in Miami and would fit well with Wade and Dragic.

Altanta would be a great fit for him as well, and he is obviously familiar with their organization
