OK 3 PM hasn't hit yet but sounds like nothing major is going to happen. What a boring deadline

What are the rockets and Hawks thinking?

Especially rockets with sensitive Howard surely to not pick up his player option and bounce after this season.

Hawks at least have a great chance to replace Horford with Howard. Though just like the Celtics and Nets trade (before) that future pick (lotto bound or not as of now) could turn out to be a gem

If you can't get the 2015 Nets pick , why not attempt to grab the 2018 Nets pick instead for example?

Look at what happened/happening to the Lakers when they lost Howard for nothing a few seasons back.  Now they are in a serious rebuild mode

It seems every year is the "worst trade deadline."  Except for last year.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Most things happen in the final minutes.  Maybe nothing happens, but we don't know yet.

Usually all the trades go down at 2:50-259

I don't think we want howard and horford is too expensive.  Unless Ainge finds something else we are going into the offseason with a bunch of draft picks and expiring deals.   It might be worth it to wait but we are really getting down to it.

Businesses, and NBA teams are businesses, do not do things for the sake of doing things. If it isn't in the best interest of a team to make a trade, they won't. If Atlanta and Houston are not getting the return on Horford or Howard they think is fair, they shouldn't make a trade and can still decide what to do with the extra cap space this summer if they decide to leave. Both teams have many options, including, trying like hell to win with the players they have this year.

I said months ago that the Celtics wouldn't be players in this year's trade deadline transactions. Once NJ came out as poor as they did, the C's had to hold onto that pick and basically made them have little that others teams would want for a star player.

ESPN reported 39 players were traded last year in the last 45 minutes before the deadline.  In other words...hold onto your butts.

We are probably better off seeing what pick we get first.

Hawks are probably thinking it is better to take the chance and resign Horford than take the current offers.

Makes sense to me.

Makes sense to me.

as well as the fact that - they might actually do well in the playoff this year. it could also come down to money - the owner may just want to make the playoffs for the additional revenue and hope upsets happen and ATL goes far.
Remember the East is open IF Lebron gets injured.

I wonder how complicated things are to pull off "last minute" deals.  E.g. how much lead time is needed to a) make sure salary cap issues are considered - especially if you are trying to make 2 deals at the deadline b) get the communication completed (what is it a phone call, email, etc..).

E.g. when we say 2:50 is it really such that if things aren't "finalized" by say 2:00 they don't have the ability to complete "all of the paperwork", etc..

I wonder if deals have ever been nixed because some lackey made some kind of mistake in the process.

I think the NBA front office gives some leeway as to the finalization of the paperwork so long as an agreement has been set in place before the 3:00PM deadline. I think this is the reason you hear about so many last second trades at about 4 and 4:30PM every year.

The league wants to help teams that have agreed to a trade so as long as the agreement is in place the deal can go into the night to make sure it's legal. But those deals are usually still reported by that point.

I could see Sacramento agreeing to a deal that wasn't legal and had to be scrapped after announced. But the other team(s) involved would probably already know that and prevent it from getting to that point.
