Agree that they're hoping Danny sees us as close to contention and is willing to mortgage the future to take a swing at this year, but not only hoping for but demanding that pick for pending UFAs seems wildly unrealistic.

Agreed.  They probably know it's unrealistic, too, but they had to make the call.  And then a simple "Let's look into this just to cover our bases" becomes "THE HAWKS ARE SHOPPING AL HORFORD!!?!?!"

Of course. Buoy don't give away a lottery pick for someone that may walk.  We hold all the cards.  We get em now or later

Blakely wouldn't know a basketball if it hit him in his big behind head...I don't believe ANYTHING he says.

SALT LAKE CITY -- With Atlanta reportedly unwilling to trade Al Horford, it’s looking more and more like the Boston Celtics will remain intact when the trade deadline passes.

The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Hawks plan to hold on to Horford, as well as guards Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroeder. CSNNE.com has learned there were a number of reasons why Atlanta has decided to keep its core together, including the fact the Celtics were unwilling to part with this year's Nets' first-round pick.

Quote
Multiple league sources have told CSNNE.com that while the Celtics like Horford’s game and believe he would be a great fit, he’s not among the very select few players for whom they would surrender the Brooklyn pick as part of the transaction.

Quote
Boston’s other prized target via trade remains Kevin Love of Cleveland. Like Horford in Atlanta, the Cavs have not been clear as to whether they intend to move Love prior to today's 3 p.m. trade deadline. But at this point, a source told CSNNE.com that Cleveland has been “underwhelmed” by the offers it has received for Love and at this point is expected to hold on to him for the remainder of this season.

onto Dwight without giving up Brk picks  ;)

....so because Blakely reported it...we all should expect the opposite, right???

Right? There should be a separate section of the forums for him titled "mad up crap."  ;D

Atlanta is high if they thought there was ever a chance they were getting a possible top 5 pick for an unrestricted free agent that is likely bailing on them this summer.   That's extremely stupid.

Horford's trade value should be even with rondo last season.  A late 1st and a decent role player or two (that's all crowder was when we got him).  At most, they can get Amir, the Dallas 1st, the Boston 1st and the Philly 2nd.   Anything more than that is ridiculous.

Re: Atlanta ~ and it's not like Horford's a 1st team NBA player...

Re: Houston ~ yet Rondo was traded in December, not February, which is  significant difference for a rental. Morey's probably feeling bold, though, after fleecing SVG this morning...

Love can be had if we give up the brooklyn pick. Do it Danny.  Then we can get Horford  too.

also Re: Houston~ Rondo plays a position of greatest surplus in the NBA...there are much fewer (and above average) more traditional C's and C/PF

Not a fan of Love since he is a defensive liability.  However, I will accept him into the Green if we don't give up too much.

Love is developed and would be a top 5 player talentwise this draft for sure.  I'd take Love over pretty much everyone but that is somewhat debateable.  There are other players in the league too. But Love is on a short list of maybe 5-10 players tops even counting all the picks we have.

Why on Earth would Atlanta expect a likely top 5 pick for 2 months of Horford's contract?  I mean sure, shoot for that first, but if not getting it is really a dealbreaker why even bother?

That's right , makes no sense to trade off your best players and picks for two months rental.  When you can just bid for his services this summer with lots of cap room.

Atlanta , Houston , Doc just fishing.  .....
