Assuming the Magic see some value in Jennings and are not simply dumping Harris, it feels like moving Oladipo is the next logical step.
Why?

A Jennings/Oladipo bench backcourt simply isn't tenable. Both are ball-dominant, neither are great defenders (despite Oladipo's reputation).

Correct.  I do think Oladipo would be better served playing largely off the ball, but if they actually want to give minutes to Jennings, I'd have to think he's 5th in line behind Peyton, Hezonja, Fournier, and Jennings.  Now well into his third season, that seems like the type of player one tries to get some remaining value of on the trade market.  He's getting $6.5 million next season, too.

Excellent job by SVG. He's got a great core now: Jackson, Pope, Harris, Johnson, Drummond
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Not bad for DET I guess. Strange Orlando would take another guy who needs the ball without planning to move another guy like Fournier or Oladipo.

Part of why Detroit has improved a lot is because SVG went back to his 1-5 P&R with 3 surrounding shooters, particularly at the 4 and Ilysova has been key in that regard. Harris isn't as good of a shooter. Maybe it'll work out though. Harris is younger and probably a better overall player.

Chase Oladipo though Danny if Jennings goes to Orlando! Does AB, Jerebko and a pick or two for Oladipo and Channing Frye work?

Orlando is making a big mistake. They have to be able to get more for Harris, and if they can't by the deadline then I think he would have a lot more trade value in the offseason.

Jennings and Ilyasova don't move the needle enough to get into the post season imo.

Terrible deal. They're giving away a cost-controlled, young prospect for two guys who are expiring and will likely bolt at the end of the season. It's not even like they're getting a pick out of it, either.

To be fair, we don't know that.  A lot of times these "solid rumors" only contain the primary pieces of the deal that winds up getting done, and there winds up being a bit more to it.  But as it stands now, yeah, it looks pretty bad.
Straight salary dump of the like we haven't seen in a while. Especially on a young player's deal.

I'm still trying to understand it from ORL's end.  Harris' contract is only going to look better down the road with the cap explosion.  Why dump it now and why dump it for Jennings/Illyasova?

Good for Pistons, not so sure about Orlando...

It's already been reported they're definitely not getting a first rounder. I don't place any significant weight on second rounders.

This trade should be assessed as Harris for Ilyasova, with Jennings as an expiring contract thrown in to match salaries, with a small chance of proving to be useful enough to want to re-sign.

The Nets and Knicks have been reported to be interested in Jennings, so maybe the Magic try to flip him for the minimal assets that he is worth.

I have a feeling this is the thinking for Orlando

1. Save money in the future to make room for re-signing guys like Fournier, Oladipo, Peyton, Gordon.

2. Add outside shooting and experience to appease Skiles.

3. Clear the way for Aaron Gordon to grab a spot in the starting lineup.

Looking back to last summer, I remember it sounded like Orlando wasn't that high on re-signing Harris to begin with, but letting a RFA walk away for nothing when you don't have a better use for the cap space is asinine.

Orlando ultimately didn't get much for Harris, but signing him to a big money deal didn't end up being a bad decision for them.  They got some value for him.  Looking at it that way, this deal makes some more sense.  They never wanted to keep him long term.

I'm pretty sure if Danny really wanted him, he could have given the Magic a better offer

This. TP!
It ended up being a win-win for Orlando considering that they could have let Harris go for nothing this summer. Yet they ended up getting two players that coach Skiles knows from his time in Milwaukee, which could be a good thing for the team.

I get it for Detroit but not seeing the upside for Orlando.  Ilyasova and Jennings aren't going to help them at all.

The Detroit Pistons have acquired Tobias Harris from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova, a source told ESPN’s Chris Broussard on Tuesday.

Yeah I think this is what Orlando must have been thinking.  They just weren't that enamored with Harris and needed to make both cap and roster room.

Hard to say how this works out for Detroit.  I thought they had a solid starting 5 but a very week bench.  This thins the bench a little more.  Dinwiddie or Blake are now the back up point.  Detroit was playing well the first half of last year before Jennings got hurt, then nose dived.  Obviously with Jackson there was less room for him, but if Jackson gets hurt they may really regret this.

Apparently, Danny was not fond of Harris, because we could've easily beat that deal without really giving up all that much at all.

Well, with the Heat looking to take a step back with Bosh's issues, we now might have to watch our tails for Detroit.
