No one brought up the fact that this is partially coming from Steven A Smith? Right there that leads me to believe that it is completely made up. Has he ever been right about anything?

he was right about doc leaving to go to clips. He was the first one that announced it was going to happen

Let's be accurate, though. This is what he reported:

Quote
The proposal allegedly being discussed was Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Clippers for Blake Griffin, Eric Bledsoe, DeAndre Jordan and Caron Butler. Then Doc Rivers would walk away from the Celtics this summer and sign on to coach the Clippers in place of a canned Vinny Del Negro.

Would you consider that to be getting it right?

Of course he was way off on the proposed deal, but he is obviously connected people around the league, especially Doc

So, his connections don't translate to accuracy. In other words, made up nonsense.
How do you know that proposal wasn't being discussed?

I'm going to assume the entire Clippers organization wasn't on crystal meth.
Why assume it came from the Clippers and not the Celtics?

EDIT: I mean is that really any different than Smart for Noel and 3.  And look at what KG and PP actually ended up yielding.  It wasn't like it might not have been out there as being discussed.  Being discussed doesn't mean ever seriously considered.

"Discussed" implies that there was more to a discussion than an offer followed by a one word "no".  And frankly, I doubt Danny would even offer such a lowball deal. Blake + Bledsoe + Jordan is laughable.  Reporting that as being under discussion is laughable.

How is it made up if Doc actually went to the Clippers? Maybe he exaggerated it to get a bigger headline, but it's not like he was wrong about Doc wanting to go there and the clippers having to trade for him, which they did.....

He said we'd get Blake, Bledsoe and Jordan (!!!);

He said we'd trade KG and Pierce;

He said that Doc would sign with the Clippers, not be traded there.

Wrong on literally every single count.  Made up nonsense.  Or, in your words, "way off".  Celtics Thug got more stuff right than that.

The quote was that it was discussed, not that it was happening.  No one makes me change the channel faster than SAS, but he is well connected.

Yeah, I think we can give up one of AB or Crowder (I think most here would rather keep Crowder), but not both of them. A package centered around AB, Sully, Lee and picks (including this year's BKN pick) should be enticing enough to make a three-way trade happen. There just doesn't appear to be anything on the Cs interest yet and we have generally been on everything.

Blake would clearly be the best player out of the several who have recently been talked about.

Clippers offered Blake Griffin & Lance Stephenson to the Nuggets for Faried, Gallinari, Will Barton & Nikola Jokic. Denver declined. (ESPN)

so what would be an equivalent package for the c's?

AB, Crowder, KO, Brk 2016 pick , dal pick ?

That's their 4 best players.  Equivalent would have to be something like IT, Crowder, Sully and KO.

That would leave:

Griffin
Zeller
ET
Bradley
Smart

Johnson
Brooklyn pick
Mickey
Rozier
Hunter

Not as deep as we are now, but maybe more long term potential.

Common sense says that deal was never "discussed".  It's worse than 99% of the trade ideas in this forum. The Clips would have been giving up the three best players.

SAS has connections. So does Sam Smith. So does Peter Vecsey. So did Peter May.  All regularly make / made stuff up.

WELL FWIW

Broussard said Doc told him there is no way Griffin won't be on the clips after Thursday.

Sounds like they are just trying to get a feel on his value in case they get knocked out of the playoffs early again this year. Maybe at that point they would start thinking about trades for him in the off-season .

Is it just me that is on the side that thinks if true Denver are morons for not accepting this trade?
They are horrible, they'd be getting arguably a top 10 player in the NBA and a one time stud in Stevenson who I believe does have something left in the tank.
If I were Denver i'd be in "sell some seats mode" their rebuild hasn't been going well for  them since they traded Melo, it might be time for a new approach and see the kind of swing a guy like Griffin can give them.

What if the proposal had Boston sending 3 1st's in the proposal?  It is as laughable then.  Bledsoe was traded that summer (Bledsoe, Butler, and a 2nd round pick for Dudley and Redick), Jordan is a role player (especially back then), and Paul's contract was expiring.  I could totally see LA floating around discussions centered around win now trades to keep Paul happy.

I wonder if New York would trade Porzingis for Blake Griffin.

I am not sure whether LAC would do it. Porzingis is amazing but not quite a win-now player for a team that is definitely in a win-now mode.

The Knicks get to fast forward their rebuild and pair Melo + B.Griffin together. Instantly become one of the most attractive FA destinations in the league. Could surely add some more talent around them in FA. Build a quick contender in the East. Outside of Cleveland, the East is wide open. The Knicks could easily become the 2nd best team in the East in short order.

No way, he is untouchable. They wouldn't trade him for Lebron. (Well, probably for KD if he signed an extention).

I would imagine LAC insist on either Smart or Crowder.
Bradley is a little tougher to switch onto bigger wings and might not mesh as well alongside Reddick & Paul.

How about Amir, Lee, Smart + two late firsts for Blake & Lance ?

That would massively improve Doc's books going forward, while yielding capable FT-ing vet bigs to rotate with Deandre.  And Smart in their system as a pure defender would be an absolute monster come playoff time.  Be sure scouts around the league have queued his Harden/Westbrook road trip from earlier this year.  Being able to put him full time on a guy like Curry might be the difference maker between beating GSW or not.

If Lance is included in the deal, I include all BKN picks, Crowder, IT, etc. You'd have to be an idiot not to.

Want a championship? Cool, make a move for Blake. Want a dynasty? Find a way to help Lance call Boston home.

I think that the 28 other teams would gladly beat this offer.

Lance?  Lance Stephenson?

I hope you're being sarcastic here.  You couldn't pay me enough to take on that cancer.
