I'm not a fan of the new Rising Stars challenge. I loved the Sophomore vs. Rookies games. Absent of that, I also liked the ones with two personalities drafting players for their team.

But this USA vs. World is idiotic in my opinion.

All that aside, congrats to Smart.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Maybe, its just me, the idea of King Cobra just doesn't sound that appealing.

But props to Marcus Smart for being voted in. I really do enjoy watching the highlights, because you see certain types of player used as adjustments, and its interesting to see how matchups get switched all around in terms of trying to win games.

Yes, Rookies vs Rophmores just made more sense in my opinion. It almost just showed the strength  of what coming for  the future of the NBA.

EDIT: Smart  working his tail off and its clearly noticed to somewhat degree.  This would be a great time to get some league recognition regardless how much it is

Congrats, Marcus!!

Relatedly, I saw that Karl Towns was listed for the US team.  I thought he was Dominican and played internationally for the DR?

He's from the US.  I think he practiced with DR because he has Dominican heritage, but never actually played -- it was sort of a recruiting thing by Calipari (who coaches the DR team) as much as anything.

Gotcha.  Just googled it.  His mom is Dominican but he has an American dad and was born and raised in the US.

I do distinctly remember him playing for the World team in the Nike Hoop summit as a DR representative.  Also, I'm pretty sure he played in real games for Calipari's DR National team, they just didn't qualify for the olympics.

Notable exclusion- Julius Randle.

Wonder if that was more due to 2 Lakers already being in the game as opposed to merit based.
