Don't think many Celtics fans will be happy with the Gorman/Heinsohn ranking.

Quote
20. Boston Celtics – 2.19
-Mike Gorman (play by play)
-Tommy Heinsohn (analyst)

Most popular grade: A (29.78% of voters)

Analysis: Nearly 30 percent of the voters gave Gorman and Heinsohn As. How much of that is Boston’s fans showing up to defend their boys, I can only guess. Gorman is a stud, but he’s overshadowed by Heinsohn, who is, for better or worse, the most notable in-game personality outside New York. Heinsohn’s “tell it like it is” analysis transcends homerism — he’s so transparently subjective that the broadcast takes on a surreal tone — and, as the voters displayed, you either love it or hate it.

Reader comments: “For the Celtics, it’s too bad we couldn’t split the vote.  I think Gorman does a fine job on play-by-play but Heinsohn is just a godawful homer.” – MB79

If you have League Pass, you'll certainly have to nod your head in agreement with some of these rankings.

While Tommy can be a major homer and yells at fouls that were clearly legit against the C's, I prefer any combo of him, gorman, or skal to national TV announcers who have major man crushes on LBJ, Curry, Kobe, Melo, etc.

The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

What do people prefer, announcers who present themselves as calm and objective while nonetheless spouting clearly-biased, provincially narrow analysis of every situation in the game, or a guy like Tommy who basically comes across like he's a proud / belligerent grandfather in the stands at a high school game?

The Jazz announcers are an example of the former.

I prefer Tommy.

Enthusiastic New York fans.  There are a lot of them on the Internet.

Can't say I'm surprised at all, and I think their summary hits the nail on the head with praising Gorman while criticizing Tommy.

Hey I like Tommy, but I'm also a C's fan.  I can easily understand how a non-C's fan would hate him.

Through League Pass (and illegal streams), a lot of people can listen to a C's game, and I find on various threads and forums when a non-C's fan tunes in to the C's broadcast (like in the double overtime game to GS) it's not uncommon to quickly hear some someone complaining about Tommy (he's an idiot, annoying, the worst homer ever, etc.), so I know there's strong dislike for Tommy out there.

What I am surprised to see is the beloved former member of the C's broadcast team all the way up at #2 (though only as an analyst).  We all knew you'd move on to great things Donny, take a bow   :P

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

not surprising.  Gorman's recognized as a top analyst and Tommy's recognized as a major homer.  I'm fine with it but I'm a C's fan.  Scal and Max are fine in my book too.

I don't care for most of the guys that do national broadcasts, particularly the color commentators who spout off as fanboys of the top players more than provide in-game analysis.  Play by play guys are usually run of the mill but I really hate Breen who's just an obnoxious fanboy of the top players.

worst broadcast duo: Breen and Marc Jackson

Yeah, obviously Tommy's a homer, but should't it really only matter how the announcers 'announce' for their team's games? Why does someone in Portland (or wherever) care how a Celtics analyst analyzes games the Celtics play in?

As for Gorman, it really doesn't get much better. Even if Tommy is rated as the absolute worst, Gorman should have at least pulled the duo up to #15 or so.

From what I've seen on NBATV, a lot of these local crews are just brutal.

Gorman's as good as there is for local PBP.  He's perfect in his current role.  I've been listening to Tommy for a long, long time and remember when he was the #1 analyst on CBS.  At this stage of the game he's good some nights, but when he's not good he's either overhyping individual Celtic players or overdoing it on the refs.  He still needs to be part of the broadcasts though because he is Celtics history.

Scal knows the current players and can talk about the game both as a player and coach.  He just talks too much, which he'll hopefully improve upon.  I would really like to see them work in Max, who I just enjoy listening to.  If you equally split the games among those three and use Tommy in studio when he's not doing games, I'm fine with that.

20 is too low a ranking through.  Gorman and any analyst ranks top half of the league.

to be fair Kevin Harlan gets excited whoever throws down a major dunk. I remember he said the same thing when KG did it too lol

but yea, I can see why people hate Tommy, Tommy does get a little extreme when the calls don't go our way lol

Living in the Bay area, the warriors guys have really started to get on my nerves. One of their guys starts squealing like crazy when the warriors are doing good (which is quote frequent). He really needs to tone it down when they get a bucket in the 3rd quarter up 28 against the nuggets.

Yeah I think the first time I heard Harlan do that was on a Keon Clark dunk.  Pretty sure he didn't have a man crush on Keon, he just likes to make excited outbursts on spectacular plays.
