Do we want him?

Could we make something work?

I could see them wanting Crowder(they desperately need a 3 and D wing) and Olynyk (stretch 4 next to Jordan). However, I don't see those 2 plus picks being enough to get him. Plus they have a crowded backcourt so that rules out throwing in Smart.

I don't think they're anywhere near trading Griffin. If they wanted to really shake things up, both CP3 and Jordan would be candidates to move first.

At some point I think they will be faced with dealing one of Blake, DeAndre or CP3 because the team is maxed out on its current roster and there is no other way to improve.

Although Doc strikes me as the type of guy who will keep his stars and just hope he gets lucky adding reclamation project bench players to round out his roster.

I'd love to make a run at B.Griffin with the Brooklyn pick. Now or on draft day.

I can't see them being open to trading him, he's been key for them in the playoffs
I'm bitter.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I don't think it's impossible, but the cost would be steep. As C Fan Forever points out, Crowder and KO would make a ton of sense for them; unfortunately, I think this year's Brooklyn pick would also have to be included (rather than the Dal/our pick).

Yes.

Could we make something work?

No. The Clippers have had a nice little stretch without Blake where they've managed to beat bad teams without superstars (while they still have Chris Paul) or struggling above-average teams (such as Miami) and lose to good teams. They would not have beat the Spurs last year without Blake Griffin. They would not have taken Houston to the brink without Blake Griffin and they eventually lost to Houston in spite of Blake Griffin's terrific play.

If there is a top player that they'd move, it's Chris Paul, not Blake Griffin. I think it would be smart for them to sell high on Paul while it looks like he still has 2-3 years of superstar play left (but in reality probably only has 1-2). Yesterday ESPN proposed Chris Paul for Kyrie Irving. That's an interesting idea.

Pretty much. I'd also expect the Clippers to want Crowder, Thomas, Sullinger or Olynyk and some picks for Paul. That said, I think the asking price would be too high for a smaller player his age.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Blake Griffin is an MVP caliber player. The Clippers won't trade him for anything on our roster.
You could offer Smart+Crowder+IT+2016 Brooklyn pick and they'd say no.

Like Paul George, you just don't let those guys go for anything unless it's a top 5 or 10 player coming back.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

No. They're only playing better because the injury happened to correlate with a particularly easy run in their schedule. They got crushed by the two legitimate contenders they've played, Cavs and Raptors.
