Just curious how good are your skills at judging talent, lots of us spend a good amount of time looking at these kids, especially this year with three firsts round picks, and eight overall.

So if you were putting in 40 hours a week at this, do you think you'd be just as good as the real scouts?
 What say you.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

With a bit of practice I'd surely be Divac's right hand man.

I would be terrible at noticing the subtle variables that would separate an effective college player from an NBA prospect.

I'd be fired within a day -- might make 48 hours if I strategically kept my mouth shut.

I'd say I'm more of a coach. I think of how players can be used more so than what they will develop into. So system scout would be my staple to stay employed.

Welp, it's a fun thing to think about but I dont know nearly enough about advanced basketball concepts, nutrition, and body composition to even consider it.

Think my eye test developed alright to the point where after a while where you start being able to discern if things like if a first step is quick enough to create separation in the NBA or if that hitch in their shot is correctable.

Its a pretty strange life. In many ways you would have to act as a private investigator, trying to identify potential areas of concern in the personal lives of teenagers. You have to talk to their families and meet their coaches and friends not buying in to most of what their telling you since their incesentivised to sell you a story.

Whoever is the Spurs head of international scouting has probably affected the league more than many great coaches and players. Its a job where if your doing it right most people won't realize you did anything at all.

Funny that you brought up nutrition, why do you think that would matter for a scout.

Depends. My dead grandmother could be fairly effective for the Sixers. But for the Spurs or Celtics? Yeah I don't know. Would probably take a lot of work.

I think it largely depends on the team of doctors and other professionals you surround yourself with.
I would even be so bold as to add behavioral scientists and prevention experts to my team, among others.

When drafting a player teams usually go to the "War Room" and everyone involved with the process shouts out pros and cons and they "try" to get rid of group think. But Scouting is much harder than the video of the Kings war room and the process they undertook to select Nik Stauskas.

For the most part scouting is a thankless and pay-less job. Basically you are an intern and not only do you not get paid but you have limited selection in where you can go....Asia and Eastern Europe.

Personally, I would need a year of training before I even thought of being able to make picks for a team. But that would include my own selection of professionals that would surround the process, and I would pick the areas that I may be weaker in to study.

The big thing with Scouts is group-think. It's why Towns was not ranked for some time even after winning the Gatorade-Player of the year, there were rumors of bad knees....BAM now scouts see you as the Next Oden.

Mef, give yourself credit...even my Mother is a better scout than Jordan as GM.

I don't think I could ever be that good of a scout, although Draynond Green was someone I wanted in 2012.  But I'm fairly sure I could be an NBA capologist tomorrow, if teams had that position.
