Realistic Draft scenario for Celtics

I think I've watched parts of 3 of Jaylen Brown's Cal games times this year, and tonight vs. Arizona I finally started seeing some of things that got me excited when I watched him as an HS player.  He was much more aggressive than I've seen him in previous games and is really explosive attacking the rim.  He also showed some defensive capabilities with a key steal, and a couple of chase down blocks.  His jumper still needs work, and his handle is pretty loose, but he has size and athletic tools that not many others do. 

He's in my top 4.

Totally agree. He's obviously not on the Ingram/Simmons level of prospect, but I really like him. He has that crazy athleticism that, if he harnesses it, could allow him to be a monster in the NBA--think a wing version of Westbrook. I doubt he'll ever be a knock-down shooter, but I could see him being enough of a threat to draw out defenders and then drive past them. I don't know enough about Bender, but I'd probably have Brown at #3 behind some combo of Bender and Dunn.

I think people are really underestimating Brown. I have seen about 17 of their games this year plus a few of his HS games. While I would agree that Ingram and Simmons are better players right now (Ingram only because I think he scores easier than Brown) I think Brown has come a long ways since the beginning of the year. At the start of the year he was at times very out of control and his shot was very rough. Today, his shot is much better and he doesnt force things going to the rim nearly as much as he did at the start of the year.

While his handle is still lose at times, you can see the progress in his game. While the Cs lack shooting, they also lack guys that can get to the rim and are athletic. Lack of getting to the rim is huge problem because this team rarely gets easy shots at the rim. I see a guy that works on his game. That's what I want. For those that loved Smart coming out you should certainly like Brown.

Is Jaylen Brown more Vince Carter or Corey Maggette?

Does J.Brown have more to his game than athleticism and slashing? [Maggette-like]

J.Brown's shooting is poor but he is only a freshman unlike Vince who had 3 years at UNC. How is Jaylen Brown's handle? His passing? Defense? Rebounding?

Can Brown impact games in more ways than Maggette could?

By underestimate Im talking more about people focusing on his weaknesses more than his strengths.

I wouldnt compare Brown to either player. He is much faster and more explosive in my eyes than both although both of those players are better shooters, shot creators, and for Vince he is a better overall athlete.

I would say his defense like most players his age is somewhat spotty. He has the talent to stay with guys but can get lost off the ball. I dont worry much about his aspect because it will get better in the pros.

I wouldnt say he is a poor shooter per sa. The numbers certainly say that but if you watch him closely his shot has gotten much better as the season has gone along. He still has some clunkers shooting but overall I think its gotten better due to him working on it.

His handle can get loose at times but its tight enough for him to get through tight spots at times. Now I will say that much of this problem comes from trying to do too much which was a big problem early in the year however in the last 3 games I have rarely seen him force things unless right at the rim which for me I have no problem with.

In terms of passing he isnt very creative but is a willing passer. He doesnt force feed passes like Turner.

Overall at this point I think he is a B+ prospect with low downside and a high upside. One of the things I look for in a player is does he work to get better and does he study and learn from his mistakes. He has come a long way since the start of the season. For a team that has very little speed I think he makes for a great long term option.
