Marcus Smart can take all the 3's he wants as long as Evan Turner swears he will never ever think about it!!!

  • That's turrible
I'm sure that will be one of his first priorities in the offseason. Dude won't have summer league to deal with so he likely won't injure himself in the summer again. I think that dislocated finger set him back from improving his shot more than people think. I believe he couldn't get back into basketball activities until roughly late August/early September anyways.

Agree. Everyone is crapping on Smart not hitting threes in his second season, but says nothing of Turner taking them, when he's WAY more cringe worth when he spots up.

Smart was shooting the 3 ball decent in SL and the preseason. I think the injury really hurt his flow. And with the lack of practice/scrimmages it's hard to work out of those funks when you're already not a great shooter. Both AB and IT went cold for a stretch, but they have the experience to work it out.

His shot selection was good tonight on the most part. He  3's were wide open instead of having a defender right on him. Took it to the hoop to. Right now for Smart I'd rather see that. A balance of shot selection than him just hitting 3's

he shot 15/54 from three between Summer league and preseason. That averages out to 27 percent. He shot 35 percent overall, when including 2s, in Summer league before messing up his hand. Those are not decent numbers.

Outside of the 3 pt shooting I think his offense is actually improving. Getting to the rim and the line more, posting up smaller guards and actually being aggressive instead of hanging out by the 3 pt line 24/7. I'm personally more concerned with him keeping up this level of aggression on offense over how well he shoots 3s because most of his offense, for a player of his size and strength, should be inside the arc. Thats why he drove me nuts last year and while his numbers aren't great I think he's still a better offensive player now for the reasons above.

Seems Marcus shoots either .500 from behind the arc or goes 0-3 or 1-5. This is encouraging - he should be able to replicate his success and develop his 3 pt. shot, as AB has

man... 33% shooting... 19% from three.  Awful.   Really hope he finds a way to be effective on offense.

no spinning those numbers.  his is just not a good outside shooter, and its weird because his shot looks OK.

Actually, they are fairly spinnable.  He shot a respectable .335 from three in his rookie season.

If he gets on a small hot streak, he can raise this year's percentage pretty quickly.

I say, keep shooting them, Marcus.  They'll start to fall.

He's still the hope so I'm with you but how can he miss this many? It's starting to be cringeworthy when he shoots threes.

**** at people thinking smart going to become a better shooter by launching them in the game.  That's not where improvement happens.  Frankly, I think smart is one step above rondo in terms of shooting.  He has a long way to go and I have my doubts that he'll ever be a serviceable shooter.

And yes, just because they are open doesn't mean he should take them.  You can get a three pretty much anytime.  That isn't necessarily a good shot regardless of how open you are.  But the really disconcerting thing is why smart takes so many threes.  He does so because that's the best shot he can get regularly.  He is not capable of getting to the rim or finishing when he does get there at a high level.  That's why he shoots those shots.  Because that is all he can get for the most part.

actually a few games a go, Sully started taking less threes, and they did an interview with him where he said he was a bit more comfortable shooting long 2s than step back for the 3

Yep. Those mid range jumpers he takes off the dribble are almost always contested, with his defender usually on his hip, forcing Smart to lean more into his shot. And the push shots look just as tough, when he tries to get the shot off 5 feet before the rim, but they've been going in lately.
