He didn't really take any forced or bad ones tonight. If he's ever going to be a star-level player, he's going to have to shoot threes to some extent. There's no problem with him taking the ones he did tonight, which were all open threes that weren't really forced or bad shot selection.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I agree. Was at the game and thought all the shots were within the flow of the offense. But by the last one he took, I was cringing and yelling to take him out.

Hopefully he starts hitting some threes. Tonight was pretty brutal. He did have another nice drive and push shot, hard to call it a floater, in the lane. He seems to be figuring out how to get his shot off in the lane. I'll take that as a win. The threes should eventually start to hit.

No. Smart has had plenty of opportunities and responsibilities. He has been in the rotation since day 1, he played 27 mpg his rookie year.

Agree. We are not winning a championship this year, so Marcus can take as many threes as he likes in game situations, as long as they are within the flow of the offence..

This.

There is the usual trade off between immediate results and player development, but IMO the damage to our winning chances from Marcus taking a few threes in every game is minimal.

There's a huge difference between Smart's role on this team versus some like Wiggins, Payton, Parker, and Noel. First off, our team is much better than any of their teams, and Smart's offensive role is smaller due to our system and roster. Hell, he's just now starting to get ball-handling responsibilities from Stevens, because he's always had Turner do it before.

No, his offensive role is smaller because he sucks at offense. If anything, he should be able to have a bigger role on offense because our team desperately needs more offense.

Smart is shooting 20% on threes this season.
He is shooting 15% in the last five games.

If he can't take an open three when it is there, we need somebody who can. I agree he should be taking them now and we will see improvement. He won't get better at it or help the team by not being able to take them. Whatever the rest of his game is/becomes, he needs to be able to shoot threes.

I also agree that right now I am happy to see him taking them in games to build on this part of his game.

Every shot you can't make with regularity is a bad one. Just because someone is baiting you to take it doesn't mean you should.

man... 33% shooting... 19% from three.  Awful.   Really hope he finds a way to be effective on offense.

I think Smart got lulled into shooting form complacency over the summer, when he should have had a top shooting coach rebuilding/fixing it with him,  after putting up a surprisingly average average on 3's in his rookie year.

If he can't shoot them above the "Mendoza line" with the defense giving it to him, he shouldn't be shooting them at all. And if the defense is actually guarding him, he should use his vaunted PG skills to find an open teammate instead.
