What type of player should the celtics be targetting?

I think our team is set up pretty well, but if there is one thing we are missing it's a guy like James Young if he were actually good.   A wing type scorer to go with Crowder and KO.  Turner can't shoot.  Smart is still learning how and when to dribble penetration and pass and shoot. KO is not a dead eye knock down shooter at this point.  Bradley is still learning how to pass when the shot isn't there.

I agree with Kevin that Brook Lopez is not really a fit here.   Ryan Anderson is sort of redundant to KO although Ryan Anderson is a better shooter at this point. I forget who else he said to stay away from.

We don't want to hinder players development. We have young players who fit these roles.  They just aren't that.

The thing is with teh draft coming up we might be able to find these players anyways but it's whether we want to wait to develop players or not.

The celtics are set up where we can sacrifice a little to make a playoff run this year.  I wouldn't sell the farm for it.

I feel like Smart and KO should be pushed to step up the 2nd half so I kind of agree with you. I'm not sold on bringing in a wing scorer.  We keep supplanting these young guys when I feel like they need to be pushed a bit.

I get we are trying to develop and just let them be good over time but they have to have some responsibility.

We can't baby these guys forever.

KO plays basketball like he is in some fairytale frolicking through the forest lol.  It's the helicopter parenting that's doing it. He has no mean streak whatsoever.

He'll probably become a silky smooth  shooter with practice eventually but it's just weird to think about.

He's like something out of the movie Avatar.

He needs to be challenged somehow.  Like something to happen to him where he breaks through to the other side somehow.

On that note I really like KO and Sully. I think Sully is a great robin to KO's batman if they ever get it together.  I also think Amir is a good vet  We need to get Mickey time.  I don't think we have to make a move for a big man besides just giving Mickey a shot. Lee needs to go.  Zeller is ok i  have no issue with him overly.

I honestly think people underestimate the talent on our roster already.  It's really hard to tell right now.  Players develop so slowly.

I've come around to the idea that the one thing the Celtics should look for is a willingness to work hard on defense.  They don't have to be lockdown or even good defenders, but the effort needs to be there and it would be a mistake to try to acquire a go-to scorer who is a defensive zero because you think the rest of the team can cover for him.

That is the breakdown of players signed past this year at the 4 and 5 vs at the 123 and if you include this year the disparity stays pretty much the same.

It's fair to prioritize the 4 and 5. I think the 123 as currently built is really very good.

I'm pretty content with just letting Turner and Lee walk after this year. Reupping Sullinger and maybe Zeller too.  And bringing in a couple draft picks.  Ainge has so many picks it scares me a bit because I feel like we have players and its more a mindset than anything.

Tommy isn't exactly out fo his mind hyping KO.  He has a lot of talent.  I think people  underestimate Sully too although Sully's weight and health may hinder him a bit.

I think our biggest concern roster wise is what to do with this cache of draft picks and players we already have and it's not easy to put it all together.

I agree with you that this team just needs to concentrate on mindset though.  We have players.

Sullinger seems like he is who he is at this point, personally I've given up on the idea of him having Kevin Love style jump in development. Kelly was an old prospect to begin with and might just not have the mindset of a starting big man on a championship roster. Of the two I think Kelly would take to a bench/spot starter role better

Unless you think Mickey is the big man of the future (which is possible) our ideal starting 4/5 probably is currently not on this roster.
