I was watching the warriors whup the cavs tonight and watching love and i couldn't help but think, that guy is an all-star? i really wanted the celtics to get him at one point, but not just based on this game, i am glad we didn't. 5 years for 20 million a year for him seems like it could turn out awful.

I think tonight puts the whole, "If the Cavs had Kevin Love they would have won last year" sentiment to bed. Love hurts more than he helps them in the Dubs match-up because the Warriors will exploit Loves' defensive inefficiencies to no end. Zach Lowe pointed this out on his twitter tonight.

The problem might not be Lebron and Love don't work. The problem might be Irving and Love don't work. The Cavs may have to consider trading one of them for pieces that would hypothetically fit together. Knowing that Love has had issues in the past, I think it's more likely he goes than Kyrie does.

Does anyone see Thompson and Love playing the next 5 years together?

If anyone looks back on the old posts about Love trade, I said then and I'll say it now the cavs should have kept Wiggins, his athleticism and defence would have been vital against GSW and gave the cavs the opportunity to compete for the next 10 years along with his rookie contract

They screwed up big time. Lebron is already aging , a core of Kyrie-Wiggins-Thompson would have allowed Lebron to age gracefully and for them to contend for a decade.

This gets at the heart of the problem with Lebron: his ego is so massive and he has such a vice-like grip over whatever franchise he plays for that he basically ends up being the GM. Well, he's generally short-sighted and not a good GM.

With that said, there may be some serious overreacting going on based on last night's result. I'm dearly hoping that the Cavs are fatally flawed, but I'm cautious in settling on that conclusion at this point.

Yes exactly, if I was their GM I'd be doing was was suggested on the other post and ringing Sac for Cousins with a package of Love, Mosgov and picks if available

Apparently Love turned up out of shape to the last offseason and that was the reason Lebron and him were not too friendly for a while, given Loves age and experience it shows how committed he is to winning and getting the best out of himself

I forgot to mention apparently Wiggins refusal to sign with Lebrons agent, it's no coincidence that Thompson signed on with the same guy and wasn't included in the trade and then got overpaid this offseason and when Wiggins signed with a competing agency he gets shipped off lol

Love is way better than Hawes, but Kyrie+Love seems really ill-advised.

I have never been bullish on Love, but he brings a lot to the table. If Bosh, a clear perennial all-star, can kinda get lost on a team with other top players, it seems short-sighted to read too much into Love's poor returns trying to fit in with Lebron and someone who is purely offense focused like Kyrie.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
For his entire career, Love's teams outscore their opponents significantly when Love is on the floor.
Love's defense is massively over criticized- he's still a + defender and other than Lebron, always has the highest +/- on the Cavs.

He's in the wrong system. Kyrie doesn't care about getting the ball to love, and the only time Lebron cares is when he can't get the shot at the rim he wants and needs to kick out to Love. (who already spread the defense and helped Lebron get to the rim).

Kevin Love on the Celtics would make us an immediate threat against a Lebron+Kyrie Cavs.
As I said in another thread, if you think Kelly Olynyk looks good in Stevens' system, imagine what Love would look like.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I don't think so, he can't carry a team.   What he has always done is produce at some level.   Would he be an upgrade over Sully yes, but I think the Cavs would laugh at that threat.
