Agreed, I'd like to see it go, but the refs applied the rule correctly in that case. I just don't like the rule.
There's no such thing as an intentional foul in the NBA. The Amir foul would have to be either a flagrant or an "away from the play" foul if the play (the FT) had already been completed when it happened.
Call it what you want. It is the Dwight Howard rule. If someone fouls intentionally in the last two minutes, it is two FT's and the ball!!!!!!

No, the word intentional is nowhere in the rule. You're thinking of an away-from-the-play foul, which is 1 FT and the ball. It's defined as "any defensive foul prior to the ball being released during a throw-in" and "the same penalty would apply if a defender takes a foul against an offensive player who is not part of the action"
http://www.nba.com/nba101/misunderstood_0708.htmlAs jpotter noted teams have figured out that grabbing/jumping on a guy during a FT is a way of dodging this rule, because it's technically a loose-ball foul. I thought the refs were terrible late too, but your beef on this one is with the rulebook, not the refs.
