This is all predicated on the notion that Orlando would actually want to trade Gordon, which they don't. The team is very happy with him and his progress and very much sees Gordon as a major cog in their team moving forward.

Abolsutely not. With that pick I'm looking for an all-star type and Gordon isn't that.

Still just 20 years old, the forward is averaging 13.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per 36 minutes, and he's shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from beyond the arc. Every one of those numbers is up from his rookie season's marks, and the combination also puts him in a rather unique position.

During the 2015-16 campaign, only four qualified players have averaged at least 13 points, nine boards, two assists, a steal and a block per 36 minutes while matching or exceeding Gordon's shooting percentages. This includes Golden State Warriors superman Draymond Green, and since 1985-86, only 19 different players have even hit that mark during a qualified season.

Like others have admitted, I too was hoping we got Gordon in the 2014 draft.  Still just 20, there is plenty of upside but not enough to offer the 2016 Nets pick.  It doesn't seem as though Gordon has found a position.  We would need him to be a full time SF to have this make sense I think.  I don't see any reason to trade for him if he needs to play at PF.

Although not the Nets 2016 pick, there are plenty of other combinations that I would consider for him.  I think there is still plenty of upside for him.

This is example #5,162 why per 36 is often the worst stat to quote. Gordon is playing 19 minutes per game and you have no idea what he'd do in 30 or 35 minutes per game.

Here's a guy who averages 14.4 points, 13 boards, 3.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1 block per game....Jared Sullinger! Let's go get him! Oh...wait...we already have him. I know, here's a guy whose per 36s are very close to Gordon and he plays great defense! 12.7 / 9.6/2.6/1.0/1.8. Wow, what a great player Amir Johnson is! Let's trade for him! Oh...wait...that doesn't work either.

I'm not saying Gordon isn't going to be a good player. Frankly, I wanted him in that draft over Smart. He's young, can contribute and has potential. But at this point I don't see him being worth the Nets pick, nor do I see Orlando wanting to move this guy yet.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I would rather kept the pick and signed Mirza Teletovic off waivers.

This isn't how per-36 numbers work.  It's a standardization, not a projection.  Though historically when guys' minutes go up their per-36s stay fairly consistent.

It's very fair to say Gordon's per-36s don't look so impressive when compared to fairly unremarkable big men, though.  The BR writer is distorting things by making his comparison "must nearly tie or beat Gordon in EVERY single category".  That's an easy way to make numbers look more remarkable than they are, especially for guys who contribute in a lot of categories.

I like Aaron Gordon, but nope.  Gordon has Paul Millsap type upside.  He also might just be a hyperathletic backup.

That Nets pick could yield a superstar.

Gordon is more like Jamal mashburn than milsap

Gordon has decent handles. Better than crowder and not has good as Turner

He is a jack of all trades type of player. Endless energy, tough, and plays better as the game tires out.

Didnt think he would be able to develop a jumper but looking at his stats he shoots 35% from deep. I dont watch him play so I dont really know, but based on his scouting report out of college along with this, his skillset sounds pretty Kawhi Leonard-esque.

I dont think so.  I think there is a difference between not wanting to trade a guy and a guy being untouchable. I think even is Orlando wants to keep Gordon if we call up with the Nets pick I think theyd be very willing to negotiate. It just means we have to overpay for Gordon and Im not sure I want to.
