Kings Have Been Offered Eric Gordon, Alonzo Gee For Rudy Gay

The Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans have discussed a trade centered around Rudy Gay.

The Kings reportedly are unwilling to move forward on a package that would net the team Eric Gordon and Alonzo Gee.

Gay is in the first season of a three-year extension with the Kings.

Kings say, "Sure, give us your unprotected pick this year."

Pelicans hang up.

I like the idea of getting in on this trade whatever it ends up being and offering a base deal of David Lee to the Kings and we would get Eric Gordon. We need shooting and need to clear the logjam of bigs. Not a game changer but I think it would be an incremental improvement.

I wonder how they would feel about a pick swap (PHI gets best pick of PHI/Kings, Kings get best of remaining, NOP gets worst pick)
I'm bitter.

Hmmm. That's actually kind of interesting. Gordon could replace Ben McLemore in the starting lineup, and probably give the Kings close to the production that Gay gives them.

Which then would allow SAC to slot Casspi (3 point shooting) or Gee (low usage defender) into the starting lineup. Bring McLemore off the bench, or maybe even mix him into the minutes at the 3?

Who would play SF for the Kings in that case, Bellineli? He would get crushed on defense. Also, that would basically close the book on Mclemore's Sactown career I imagine if Eric Gordon comes in full time. Isn't Gay close with Rondo and Cousins as well? I don't see the benefit in this for the Kings.

If your the Pelicans, are you really better off acquiring Rudy Gay , who has managed to turn every team he is on into a non-contender, and is aging, for Eric Gordon rather than letting Gordon's $$ come off the books?

Rudy is best playing at the same position as Anthony Davis, and would be a horrible fit with Tyreke.

So there's that.

Really?

Jrue
Tyreke
Gay
Davis/Ryan Anderson
Asik/Davis

Seems like a perfectly viable lineup. Tyreke's improved his 3-point shot this season. Gay and Davis both can spread the floor a bit for Jrue. Anderson in a 6th man role.

For me the biggest news of this is that I think it indicates that they aren't actively looking to tank

I still want McLemore.  Not for a big price, mind you, but I absolutely want that kid.  His usage is tiny... he's shooting 46%/38%/75% ... He's turning 23 next month.   If we could buy low on him, I'd be ecstatic.  What do you think it would take?

Philly has swap rights with their pick for this year and next, and if they haven't swapped gets it outright in 2018.  They're not looking to tank.

EDIT: Philly would get it top-10 protected in '18, unprotected in '19.

Too many guys who need the ball and don't thrive off of it.  Gay is better as a 4.  Asik is a complete zero on offense.

I think with Holiday, Tyreke, and Davis, you need a center and a wing who thrive at finishing off the ball (catch and shoot, catch and dunk, etc).

I don't see the benefit in this for the Kings.

Subtracting Gay, particularly from the court (but from the books as well).
