KG vs. Dirk

So from there you can argue stats with dirk, Elgin Baylor, Barkley, mchale etc etc

Who comes close as the best two way pf ever? 
Funny rodman played defense and rebounded besides that he was sub par makes the list and hall of fame!  No wonder uncle bob dropped out of that circus   

This is the second time I've given my tp sorry two points on ESPN and their rankings.  This time I'm not defending an older generation kg and Tim Duncan are that good!

Well, I'd like to see Dirk take Minny to the WCF's with the team that KG had (Minny lost to LA in 6 games).

Heck, I'd like to see Dirk take any of those Minny teams to the playoffs for as many years as KG did. I doubt he does, at least not as frequently.

KG never had anybody as good as Nash or Finley while he was in Minnesota.

Dirk may have had more success with those Wolves teams than KG did.  The team lacked a go to scorer and that's what Dirk was and KG wasn't.  And Sprewell, Cassell, and Szserbiak were as good as Nash(in the Dallas system) and Finley were.

KG and Dirk are one of my favorite players of all time. I can see why Dirk ranks ahead of KG simply because he scored more points in his career. The way dirk carried Dallas to a championship was pretty unreal as well.

I love Dirk. I always voted him to the all star game.

That said, KG made Minnesota a franchise by himself, where as Dirk had many help from Cuban, Kidd, Nash, Finley, etc.

Dirk has the edge in scoring, KG has it on defense, assists, and a better prime.
Comparing their MVP season KG had a PER of 29, Dirk 28. KG had 5 seasons of 25 plus PER, while Dirk had 4
KG had to play the Kobe-Shaq Lakers, that's why he didn't make the finals.

Both have 17 seasons with more than 17 PER, both have 14 seasons of more than 20 PER. Longevity is not a factor yet, unless Dirk keeps going for a couple more seasons AFTER this one. Shows the short term memory we suffer this days. KG came straight from high school, and was a killer from day one.

KG's best season was 29.4 PER and Dirk's was 28.1.

I reckon the comparison is very close, but KG should get the edge. Both are top 25 all time.

Biggest snub in that list is Chris Webber though.

As good as Dirk was on offense KG was that much better on defense. I still say that KG is the best defensive big that I have ever watched. He covered so much of the court. Dirk was a great offensive player but KG was a very good one so considering both I would give the edge to Garnett.

Minnesota clearly wasn't a deep team, but I think people misremember the amount of talent that KG played with.  I mean Tom Gugliotta was a pretty solid player.  Marbury was a solid player who KG couldn't make it work with and Minnesota was basically forced to trade him and got a pretty solid player in Terrell Brandon.  Joe Smith was the #1 pick in the draft and while not on par with other #1 picks was certainly a solid player.  Wally was a pretty solid player. 

And let's not put the full blame on Minnesota here, KG demanded the largest contract in NBA history and pretty much eliminated any shot of Minnesota acquiring another star (they had no cap room and KG was too good for them to acquire much in the draft - and yeah I recall the whole Joe Smith fiasco that cost some picks).

When Spreewell and Cassell showed up, Minnesota finally won because they finally had two people that they could rely on to score down the stretch of games.  That has always been KG's problem.  he is much better suited as a second fiddle.  Probably the greatest #2 type player in history but a #2.  He wasn't a guy you could build a franchise on because that wasn't his game.
