Jeremy Lin's got that Yao-Ming voting bump going for him.

Doesn't really matter.  Neither Lin nor Isaiah has any chance of getting voted in as a starter by the fans.

Isaiah has an excellent shot, however, at getting selected by the coaches as a reserve.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Agreed.

I expect Kyrie and Wade will be the starters.

Lowry will be voted in by the coaches as one reserve, for sure.  Jimmy Butler probably takes the other spot, as he's considered a guard.

Are there any additional guard spots?

I think it usually works out that 5 guards get selected (2 starters & 3 reserves). My guess is Kyrie and Wade start, and Lowry, Wall, and Butler get the reserve spots.

That leaves DeRozan as the first major 'snub' and truthfully, Reggie Jackson deserves a solid look at an All-Star reserve selection too.  I'd place IT next in line after that, so it is going to be very difficult for IT to get a spot.

Last year it looks like the roster had
wall
lowry
teague
butler
irving
wade
and korver listed as a small forward? Korver was a replacement for someone. Either way it definitely looks like more spots than you mentioned. Will Kyrie really make it as a starter off roughly 15 games of action? I know fans are stupid with this stuff, but he is not exactly at the kobe point of his career.

As of yesterday Kyrie was ahead of Lowry by a few thousand votes, if I recall correctly.

Is Derozan counted as a forward or as a guard?

Seems to me that Kyrie, Wade, Lowry, and Butler will make it one way or another.

Wall, Derozan and Reggie Jackson will be Isaiah's primary competition for the last two spots, assuming 6 guards.

Nice that we can have this conversation, regardless.

As of the latest one I saw he is 30k ahead of Lowry. Considering "He has been limited to 10 games due to his recovery from knee surgery, which has kept his minutes limited since his return to the floor. The fifth-year point guard is averaging 16.5 points and 4.1 assists per game while shooting a career-low 41.5 percent from the floor and 26.1 percent from three-point range."

It seems pretty annoying he would end up starting. I obviously get stupid people are put in every year, sometimes competing when they haven't even played, but I didn't view Irving as being at that point in his career where he has already been an all-star for 8 years straight and gets the royalty vote. Hope lowry passes him (as this dramatically increase the chances of IT making it)

Yeah, Kyrie/Lowry is a really close race for the starting guard spot next to Wade. Wade has too big of a lead to be caught, so he's guaranteed.

I'd hope Lowry can pass Kyrie, because I don't think the coaches will select him as a reserve. That would leave the following five as likely 'sure bets':

Lowry
Wade
Wall
Butler
DeRozan

So, if it's possible to select 6 guards, I think that last spot would come down to one of Reggie Jackson, Khris Middleton, or Isaiah Thomas. I could see an argument being made for any of them, honestly.

Being on Bron's team helps.

I mean, the worst player in the league this year in terms of net impact is probably Kobe, and he'll be an All-Star.

It's all silly.

You can't even make the argument for Kobe that he's fun to watch.  He's horrible to watch.  Ruins games.

The exact same thoughts on Kyrie, he really needs to not make it as a starter. I don't put Derozen in the lock category because I do think that coaches try to have more teams represented if all things are equal unless a team is dominating (like hawks last year). The raptors could be anywhere from 2nd to 5th when the coaches select the rosters. If they are second they may get the second all-star nod. If the Celtics are a little higher up in the standing, I think a coach may look to reward IT for that.

Yes but I expect a legendary player to be allowed to play in the game if it is something that is is viewed as nice or good for the game and the league. I don't expect Kobe to play a major impact on the game, probably getting a lot less minutes than other players for less risk of injury. Maybe it is equally as "unfair" but for whatever reason I can accept a guy getting an unfair nod for the 19th time if he deserved it for 16 years on his own.

In baseball players like jeter and ripkin and others I cant remember off the top of my head were placed on the team in situations where they were probably average or below average players. I also didn't have a problem the time Magic played in the game when he wasn't even in the league any more.

Someone like Irving though has never won a ring, has missed the majority of the season and has not played well since returning. He is young and will have plenty of other opportunities to make a roster. Giving him a legacy position is very different in my eyes than giving one to someone like Wade or Kobe. I can understand if someone else views them as equal evils, but I personally don't.

I see the All-Star game as a showcase of the best talent the league has to offer RIGHT NOW.  It's supposed to be a fun and entertaining fluff match for the sake of the fans.  A distilled version of all that is fun and exciting about the game in this moment in time, at least from a casual fan's perspective.

Kobe is an icon of the sport, that's true, but hey, give him a career achievement award or something.  If he's on the court, he makes the game less fun to watch.  Period.  He stinks, he knows it, and he doesn't care.

Kyrie, at least, is one of the game's young stars, and when healthy he has flashy moves and is appealing to watch.  He represents the present and future of the league.  Kobe is entirely in the past.

I like IT but he is not an all star

He is a nice 6th man.

All star don't shoot at the fg rate he is at. Also make crucial game winners

Again no knock on our little guy

Most casual fans want to see the game's biggest 'names' not necessarily the best current 'talent'.
