Put yourself in Danny's shoes. What do you do? Come up with plausible trade ideas and a plan to fix this squad.
Get rid of Sullinger and Lee as soon as possible.
Those two guys played utterly stupid basketball tonight - constantly forcing horrible contested shots that resulted in nothing. I can tolerate it when guys make the right plays, but the shot just doesn't fall...but when guys are playing hero ball and trying to force idiotic plays, that's when I lose all patience.
If I were Danny would also be giving Brad Steven's a major yelling session. I don't know what in god's name he was thinking playing Lee and Sullinger in so many key minutes they way those guys were playing. Absolutely ridiculous, and some of the worst rotational decision making I've seen from a coach in some time. This team's biggest asset is supposed to be it's depth - so if guys are playing like horse crap, take them out of the game simple.
Starting to get sick to death of watching Stevens giving guys minutes just to make them happy. When Johnson and Olynyk were out there, this team was playing some really good basketball. Every time Lee or Sully came in, it was an absolute disaster.
He also needs to sit Crowder down for a very stern talking to - his decision making late in the game was almost as bad as Lee/Sully, and it wasn't just this game - he's been doing that for far too long now. I cut Crowder more slack because of his work ethic and because of all the things he does well, but he still needs somebody to tell him that he is NOT young Kobe / Melo...and that he should never, ever, ever be throwing up contested fall-away jumpers.
There are only three guys on this roster who should EVER be taking those kind of shots and they are Thomas, Bradley and Turner. MAYBE Olynyk, if the situation is desperate. You know, the guys who can actually make that kind of shot.
But Sully and Lee without a doubt need to be gone NOW. I don't even care if you can't get a value trade for those guys - I'll take a second round pick and a trade exception for either one of them. In fact at this point I would honestly waive both guys if that's what I had to do to have them gone.
Of the two Sully is the worst, and he is the one I want gone the most. Lee at least has an excuse - he is a former All-Star so I can understand the struggle of trying to accept the fact that you can no longer do the things you once could. Like wise he's been out of the rotation for some time now, so I can understand his overly eager desire to 'try too hard' in order to try and prove himself.
Sully however has no excuse. His horrible decision making, atrocious work ethic and disgusting attitude have been major issues since his sophomore season and it's probably never going to change.
When you lack outright talent, as this team does, then the only way you win games is by being completely unselfish and playing smart team basketball. Sully is completely incapable of doing that and he needs to go ASAP.
