I've been watching a few of his videos recently, and I'm just really impressed with his court vision on defense. Hes also very speedy, and runs the floor so well.

12.2 PPG, 8 RPG, and 2.4 BPG in SL, is pretty decent numbers considering his impact on defense.

He's tearing it up of course in D-League, and even Stevens has commented approvingly of that. What do you see his ceiling being, and what areas do you think he has to work on to become more, than just a role player?

One of the finest things I've noticed is Mickey runs back and down the court, to contest, and somehow surprise the offensive player who thinks he has an easy shot.

The timing and awareness shown in that last video is truly impressive.

TP, nice find.

I'm kinda fascinated with the whole Mickey story.

It seems like Danny, if not giving him a promise for our 28th pick, intimated pretty strongly that we would pick him. Mickey looked pretty disappointed about where he was drafted and during the time leading up to his contract.

Then Danny did both the right thing for Mickey, giving him more per annum than he would've gotten at 28, and the right thing for the Cs by locking him up for 4 years.

Mickey is a pretty unique talent, so I think it's hard to predict his ceiling. He could become an elite shot blocker at the 4, and depending on if he keeps improving his shot and extending his range, he could be an extremely valuable 2-way player.

I like his potential a lot and think Ainge is hiding him in plain sight in the D-league while at the same time auditioning our bigs for other teams (although that isn't going as well as planned). I think Ainge knows what he has with Mickey. He would never have given him the $$$ he did if he didn't. Getting him for the cost controlled 4th year helps the value of his contract substantially.

I'm not saying the same thing though. There is a difference between timing and explosion.  And even quickness for that matter.  Explosion is a combination of a lot of things  power, speed, height, distance, quickness everything.  Instinct is a whole other thing too. Mickey has great timing and instincts.  He's a quick leaper.  Explosion not so sure.

Bill Russell was undersized but was an explosive athlete,  instintive and timed his leaps. Plus he was just smart and understood and saw the game.  He could cover so much ground.  Mickey not quite like that.

Serge Ibaka is an explosive athlete, Instinctive and times his leaps. Not the brightest tack in the shed.

Mickey to me is instinctive, times his leaps and is just a polished player fundamentally and just has a knack for blocking shots.  He should be pretty good.

I don't see him as an explosive athlete as some of those guys mentioned. Ibaka imo is somewhat overrated though because of his explosive nature but fundamentally he isn't that great a player.  Mickey is more polished imo in ways and instinctive but both guys are as far as shot blocking.

Your serious right? Mickey is as explosive as they come.  You think you have a layup and its swatted away in a blink of an eye. If that is not explosive I don't know what is

Read my last post.  He times his leaps very well and is instinctive.  There is a difference between that and being an explosive athlete.

Rozier is really the most explosive athlete out of any of our rookies. He was drafted at 16 for a reason.

Not saying Mickey isn't athletic either. It's a combination of the two.  But the reason he gets so many blocks is because of his timing first and foremost.  He is a quick leaper and very instinctive.

Disagree. Sullinger and KO can time their blocks from a mile away. Won't be able to block many shots anyways

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
With his mobility, outside jumpshot, blocking, and defensive potential, I am going to say that Mickey's absolute ceiling is Anthony Davis...but I get that isn't very likely.

Still, wouldn't that be just awesome??

I'm curious as to what Triboy thinks. Definitely a hybrid between multiple HOF's, but the question is which ones.

Mickey ceiling is a better shot blocking but 6'8 version of Bosh.

So he has HOF potential.

Is chrish Bosh a future HOF?

Mickey is going to be a gem but not likely a future hof.

Prob not even an all star. But as effective as David west/taj Gibson

Yes! He's been an all-star 10 times. Basketball reference has him at a 98.6% HOF probability, which is even higher than Durant.

If the HOF committee actually cared who belongs in the HOF or not, bosh would not be in there.

He has carried teams to nowhere as the main man.

Lots of players have scored 18-20ppg throught out their careers.  Fan favs and make all star games. Does this mean Carmelo Anthony should make the HOF?

That will be a joke if that happens

A lot of greats have not taken their team to the promised land. Does that mean they shouldn't be in the HOF? Yes, Anthony will make the HOF too. He's about to pass Bird in all time scoring, has made 8 HOF's, and won a college title. His overall body of work easily makes him a first ballot HOF.

Are you joking??

OK Rondo should make the HOF then too right?

Triboy, if you think Melo and Bosh aren't making the HOF then you really need to watch more basketball other than Maine Red Claws highlights.

Crazyness. Mickey might be those guys in the d-league. He should be a good player.  Maybe even even very good if he plays with a high motor and great fundamentals.   He is not those guys though.

Cedric Maxwell is probably his closest ceiling guy comparison wise.

The hang time on the last video is what impresses me the most. A big man is not supposed to be that fluid, or have that kind of hang time.
