Is Chris Webber the worst analyst ever?

Sorry if this insults anyone and you like these guys. I actually liked Webber the player but really the entire TNT crew has always been awful to me.  Marv Albert is also highly overrated as an announcer. Reggie Miller. kevin Harlan.  None of these guys ever give any intelligent insight with any depth whatsoever.  Maybe I just grew up in a different time but I can see marketing to the masses when I see it and I can't stand it.

It would be one thing if they were giving people intelligent insight but instead we just see the media catering to commentary that is good for one reason alone.  Money.

Marv Albert I swear is so out of touch that there is actually a game going on. Most of them are.  He just does his trademark "yes" every so often and that's about it.

There is absolutely no teaching of basketball fundamentals whatsoever.

I love listening to Heinsohn that's the thing. Maybe that's my Boston homerism but I think Heinsohn has a lot more depth to him and history.  I was also just watching a tape of Bill  Russell teaching fundamentals and amazing stuff even today.  I just don't see that kind of stuff in todays game.  Some people think Russell was overrated but he was that good for a reason and his understanding of the game and fundamentals was amazing for the time.

I feel like a lot of people today don't understand why Russell is considered that good.  He really was that good and is deserving of everything he earned as a player.  Different times sure and athletes but his understanding and competiveness and dedication to the game is unparalled.  He really changed teh game and the celtics still to this day build their teams with that mindset.

It's just inspiring stuff to me. I don't see that same stuff in today's game.  Something much more honest about it. Different times though.

I think the closest athlete today would be Tom Brady and there are reasons why a guy like Tom Brady is so good.

I'm sorry but guys like Chris Webber never had that kind of dedication to the game.  Neither did Charles Barkley. If you listen to them it's just noticeable. They are too concerned with other stuff. I guess entertainment but yeah.

I find Heinsohn much more entertaining even still. He knows what it takes to be the best.

In my mind, commentators like Marv Albert and Kevin Harlan aren't really supposed to be the source of much insight. They're supposed to call the action and get the listeners hyped during the game and well, I think they do a pretty good job at that. Mike Gorman does it pretty well too. "GOT IT!"

It's the other guys who should be providing insights, like Jeff Van Gundy or Hubie Brown. I don't have feelings towards C-Webb, but honestly, I like listening to coaches wayyy more than players (like Mark Jackson or Reggie Miller).

That's what I mean though. I don't have any feelings towards Chris Webber either. I liked him as a player.  He is so bland as an analyst.  He is like the antithesis of Johnny Most who was even more biased than Heinsohn.

Johnny Most was so great though. He would get me fired up. These guys don't and that's their job. That's the whole point.

I find the TNT announcers take me out of the game and are more distracting.  They just talk over the game.

Hubie Brown is also about the most bland coach they could choose. I used to like when Ainge was on there.

I think Webber can be good sometimes ... but last night he was pretty bad. He was irritating me last night as well.

Reggie rarely says anything useful but he has gotten better from his early days. I'd want to throw something at the TV every time he was announcing those 2-3 years. At least Reggie has gotten past that ... where he doesn't ruin games for me ... well, most of the time.

I liked the old school announcers like Johnny Most & Chick Hearn as well. Hot Rod Hundely. Tommy is my favourite announcer in the NBA. Very lucky to have such a terrific announcing team with Tommy and Gorman. There are a few others I like around the league but the majority of the teams are somewhere between bad and barely adequate.

I like Doug Collins and Hubie Brown. They are good guys in the rotation.

I like C-Webb as an in studio personality a lot. He's actually one of my favorites. Calling games though I find him to be mediocre. I wish TNT would dump Shaq, move C-Webb into his seat permanently, and find a new pairing to go with Marv.

^This. I think the commentary caters to the people that don't watch on a random Monday or Wed (and probably don't own league pass or whatever else is used), but for the ones that casually watch. You get much more insight from the the team's color commentary crew.
