As center Timofey Mozgov recently has gone from a prominent starting role to a reserve with the Cleveland Cavaliers, several NBA teams are starting to inquire about his availability via trade, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

While the Cavaliers have expressed no interest in moving Mozgov, the 7-foot-1 center’s loss of his starting job, the franchise’s NBA-high payroll and his looming free agency could ultimately persuade Cleveland to make a deal. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 18.

Mozgov is unrestricted, so in all liklihood, given their payroll, he's gone. That said, we could use his interior defense/size.

Would Cleveland be receptive to a Sullinger or Zeller (both are restricted FA's, so there is some control there) along with a few 2nd rd picks (we have plenty) for Mozgov? I hesitate offering a future first even with protections. He does improve our team immediately and looks like the type of interior defender we target this summer anyways.

Sure, he'd definitely help. What would he cost to resign on the open market, though? He's also ~30?

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.

They gave up 2 1st round picks to get him. I see him staying unless they upgrade. They are all in to win this year. They are paying 5.8mil in luxury tax to keep Cunningham. I would rather wait till summer and see what the summer bears. If Danny can get a closer too I would like to have him. You need hard nose players to make the finals.

I think it's just because Mozgov has been playing with injuries.  They'd be stupid to let him go, they are a lot more dynamic with him in there, although TT is no slouch.

If they move him it will be because they don't think they can keep him and whatever they get what materially affect their chances at a title (i.e. they won't just trade him for future assets).

I could see something like Mozgov, Harris for Zeller, Young, Dal 1st

That seems like a reasonable trade for both teams.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

Cavs are in win now mode! Mozgov is their only legit rim protector. He hasnt been able to play as well as he did last season due to coming into the season out of shape after knee surgery

If Cavs trade him, the least they will want is another rim protector. Picks are worthless to them given them are trying to win now.

Hence they will never do that trade above as it offers them nothing in terms of their current needs. They would most likely take the chance of Mozgov eventually returning back to last season's form.

No interest in Mozgov. I want a long term above average starting center. Not a short term band aid below average starter who will cost a lot of money to keep.

He is not good enough.

Who replaced him in the starting lineup? Was it Thompson? Did they finally decide to go Love/Thompson in the backcourt with as much as they're paying them both? I can't see that working long-term.

He sure seemed it for a couple months last year.  Maybe playing over his head.
