I liked him in the trade when we made it.  I thought he would allow us to move on from Bass and give us more range in Brad's offense and a guy who could do the dirty work and shoot from 3.  But he has been even better than that.  He is a complete offensive player, creates his own offense and his defense is elite. Crowder is more than a roleplayer.  He's a basketball player and a really solid starting caliber player.

I think Crowder out of anyone on our team even Isaiah on both ends has been our best player and an allstar imo.  He's more than James Posey and really personifies this team.

Disagree with everything except for the defense is elite part.

But I like the fact we got Crowder signed on for many more years to come, so we'll see whether or not he's a role player or not.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I wonder how much more improvement he has in him offensively. I mean it's great that he can shoot the three, drive, and even pull up for an off the dribble jumper every now and then, but he doesn't strike me as a 20ppg scorer yet.

Butler was also a 2nd round pick from Marquette; maybe Crowder just needs another year or two to round out offensively.

I think he was a low-minute back-up when he arrived, a rotation player by the end of the year, a borderline starter (even though he started) in the early part of this year, and is now a legit starter.  Not sure what the ceiling is, but the improvement has been steady and surprising.

how is crowder not a complete offensive player?  He might not be an elite one. He's an elite defender.  But he can slash to the basket, score in transition and shoot with range and midrange as well.  He is a complete offensive player.  Not sure he is a post up guy that's about it. He's not an elite passer either but he is unselfish.  He does everything on the offensive end though.  He's not an elite offensive player.  He's an elite defender.

He's more than a roleplayer is all i know. He creates his own offense.  He's not just a spot up shooter and roleplayer that way.  He doesnt just get his offense on open looks and putpacks.    He creates his own offense in  a variety of ways.

He's our 3rd best scorer and probably our top defender right now. By my book that makes him probably our best player and an allstar.  The game is played on both ends.

Love Crowder. Great defender and his shot is beginning to fall, BUT he cannot create his own shot. Only 2 players on this team can do that: Thomas and Turner.

Best scorers

Isaiah
Bradley -Primarily a shooter. Limited slasher.
Crowder
Turner -Primarily a slasher and midrange shooter.  Limited range.

Smart, Sully and KO are on the outside looking in right now and more still developing.  David Lee is probably an xfactor here.  So is james young.

Best defenders

Crowder
Smart- has potential to be our best but so far this year Crowder night in night out has been our best defender
Bradley

Amir is probably 4th. Sully, KO, Isaiah, Turner are all fairly serviceable and improving.

Sully is our best rebounder. Crowder again is up there.  I think he is second.  He might be our most complete player is all.

Crowder has been impressive this year for sure. His PER36 stats have been:

Year 1: 10/5/2 (pts/boards/assists)
Year 2: 10/6/2
Year 3: 13.5/6/2
Year 4: 15/6/2

And his steals have always been around 1.7 - 2.0.

What's impressive is that he hasn't dropped off as he's gained minutes. If anything, his stats have improved slightly. But he's gone from 17mpg to 21mpg to 32mpg and continues to produce. That's a man who stays in great shape. His eFG% has also gone up so he's making better decisions on the court and not chucking the ball up.

Last month he put up 16/6/2, mostly due to more minutes (34.5 per game). If he can put up those numbers, Danny has himself another massive steal in terms of contract - 4 more years at $7m per year with the cap going up to $100m? What an unbelievable deal...a leader in the locker room, a true professional on the court and a guy who can contribute in multiple ways.

Who'd have thunk that Crowder was the best piece in the Rondo trade instead of the 1st round pick or Dwight Powell?
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Under coach Stevens players develop. Coachable players anyway.

I am loving Crowder each time he plays, he can score and defend...reminds me of KG a lot. Also makes me forget Rondo very very fast haha (sorry Rondo, still a fan though lol)

Well that's the thing.  He knows how to utilize players to their strengths.  He has these guys in the appropriate roles.

Crowder is a complete player though. Tommy said it you get the complete game with this guy.  Great find  by Danny.

I don't want to come off as too critical of Crowder because he's a really good player - our 2nd best defender and a very solid offensive player in his role.

But I don't think he's a complete offensive player. He shoots under 25% from 3-10 feet and has a pretty bad assist to turnover ratio. I think this indicates that he's a guy who can get all the way to the rim and score really efficiently, but if he sees help defense and has to improvise a little bit he can struggle. I don't have a problem with this because he plays off the ball, shoot pretty well and slashes through defenses as you said, but he's best when he doesn't do everything on the offensive end. He allows you to play guys like Isaiah Thomas on the offensive end so he is part of the reason that he fits so well into his role.
