Rules for Trade Ideas:

Two team trades only.  Three team ideas get too messy and complicated.

One of the two teams should be the Celtics.  I might make a separate thread for non-Celtics ideas, but let's keep this one more focused.

You have to post a rationale for how the trade helps both teams achieve a short term or long term goal that you believe that team has (examples: make the playoffs, clear playing time for young guys, clear cap space, get rid of a malcontent, add veteran leadership, etc).

No trades involving superstar players.  This means no Demarcus Cousins, no Carmelo Anthony.  The odds are overwhelmingly against a guy like that getting moved at the trade deadline, and there is virtually no chatter going on at the moment about a move like that happening.

....

Your goal is to come up with ideas that are as realistic as possible.  A good trade tends to involve positives and negatives for both sides.  If it's very obviously a win for one of the teams involved, it's probably a bad trade idea.

With that in mind, what've you got?

quite hard considering they are in the midst of rebuilding and those being centerpieces of said rebuilds. Probably something of the lines with AB included along with a few picks.

 Best ideas?

 Trade two seconds For Curry.

Trade a 2069 unprotected first for Anthony Davis.
2069 is supposed to be loaded with talent.

James Young plus filler for Durant.

This is what I've come up with at the moment:

1. Free Hezonja!

Orlando is flush with wing players but they lack point guard depth and their frontcourt is a bit of a mess.  Hezonja is playing a paltry 13 minutes per game off the bench and lacks a clear path to more playing time with Fournier and Harris in front.

Boston has too much depth (redundant bench-caliber talent) in the frontcourt and desperately lacks shooting and potential on the wing.  Recent draft pick Terry Rozier is dominating the D-League but has no clear path to a rotation spot in Boston.

Orlando sends Nicholson, Frye, and Hezonja

Boston sends Sullinger, Johnson, and Rozier plus BOS 2016 1st, DAL 2016 1st

The Celtics add talent / potential plus shooting and size on the wing in Hezonja.  They also avoid taking a long term cap space gamble on Jared Sullinger, an upcoming restricted free agent.  They take on Andrew Nicholson, also an upcoming FA, who has less talent and potential but is a safer bet if they choose to sign him to a multiyear deal.

The Magic add a veteran big man who Coach Skiles will probably love.  Amir might thrive playing beside Vucevic, or he might succeed coming off the bench.  Sullinger gives the Magic a quality rebounder and decent defender to bring off the bench.  Rozier could compete with Shabazz Napier for the backup point guard spot, and maybe even win the starting spot from Elfrid Payton if his jumpshot proves reliable and he shows he can run the offense.

The Magic also pick up two 1st round picks, at least one of which might end up in the late lottery, and dump Channing Frye's contract.

2. Send Us The Rooster

Boston sends David Lee, James Young, and DAL 2016 1st

Denver sends Danilo Gallinari and Randy Foye

This one is pretty simple.  The Celts use Lee's expiring contract to make salary work and send the Nuggets an athletic wing prospect that could thrive in a fast-paced high scoring system, along with a draft pick likely to fall in the middle of the 1st round.

In return, the Nuggets send out 27 year old Gallinari, a productive swing forward scorer / shooter who doesn't really fit the team's current timeline due to his age, picking up some decent future assets and clearing cap space.

It's a bit of a gamble for the Celts since who knows what Young's upside is or where that Mavs pick will ultimately fall. Danilo also has a troubling history of injuries.  On the other hand, Danilo offers the Celts a lot of things they currently lack, particularly a player with good size and excellent scoring and floor spacing ability for his position.

3. At Least Let's Get A Shooter

Boston sends Jonas Jerebko + 2nd (just pick one of the many 2016 2nds other than PHI)

Minnesota sends Kevin Martin

Jerebko has been a nice role player for the Celts, but he's better as a big man than as a wing, and the Celts have too many of those at the moment.  What the Celts need is a wing who can shoot and get to the line.  Kevin Martin fits the bill, though he's on the older side now.

The T-Wolves dump a guy who isn't even in their rotation right now because they have younger players who need minutes and pick up a psuedo-expiring contract and a 2nd rounder in return.  If they want, they can keep Jerebko around for another year.

I love Markieff Morris. I don't know what Phoenix would want but his trade value is pretty low these days so I don't think their asking price would be a problem.

PF: Markieff Morris
 C: Skal Labissiere

That would be an awesome big man combo to start next season with. Lots of athleticism and speed. Skilled bigs. Defensive potential.

Pho, your hezonja idea just made me curious.  Forget about if it makes any sense of Orlando or how Boston's roster is currently constructed... Would you trade all of Boston's picks this year (including the Brooklyn pick) for hezonja and Aaron Gordon ?

I was getting ready to point out that that would weaken us defensively down low but then I remembered that that might not be possible

I like the second one and think it is realistic.

I would not trade all of them, no, because I feel there's a good chance that Brooklyn pick could yield a player better than either Hezonja or Gordon.

I'd probably be willing to trade all of the other picks, though.

With that in mind, what've you got?

1st Trade - Star now former Superstar

Houston - Dwight Howard, Montrezl Harrell
Boston - David Lee, Tyler Zeller, Jonas Jerebko, Dallas 2016 1st

Houston does this to clear up cap room with Howard, who doesn't seem happy and can walk at the end of the year.  Lee, Zeller and Jerebko won't be on books if they decide to let Jerebko go.  The Rockets don't have a 1st round pick.

Boston does this to clear up roster space by one and use one of the many 1st round picks we have.  Howard gives us a force in the paint the rest of this year and could be with us next year if he doesn't opp to of contract.  Harrell is a good filler and a young power forward signed for 3 years at only a million a year.  If we let Sully walk and Mickey steps in Harrell becomes a great spark off the bench and cheap.

2nd trade - Future Star

76ers - Nerlens Noel, Carl Landry
Celtics - Jonas Jerebko, Tyler Zeller, Jared Sullinger, Terry Rozier, Boston & Dallas 2016 1st round.

76ers do this trade for the future assist in 2 1st rounders.  They seem to want to have a bunch of rookies.  Plus they receive a young point guard that could be the starter.  Sullinger might want to stay there because they could overpay him if they fell in love with him.  Zeller comes off the book and Jerebko could stay or leave depending on the teams choice.

Celtics make this trade to open up space.  Plus also giving us the true center we're looking for who is young.  This also turns the draft picks into an instant impact player, who we can sign long term in a year.  Also keeping the Nets pick in hoping to land the #1 or top 3 to get the prize of Ben Simmons or the two others that fit us in Brandon Ingram or Jaylen Brown.

Trade 3 - Small Forward

Washington - Nene, Alan Anderson, Gary Neal, Kelly Oubre Jr, DeJuan Blair
Boston - David Lee, Jonas Jerebko, Kelly Olynyk, Terry Rozier, Dallas 2016 1st

Washington does this trade to get a back up point guard for John Wall, plus to have a stretch four with Kelly Olynyk for this year and next.  Considering at the end of this year they have to resign Bradley Beal.  Also they seem to really like Porter Jr. as there small forward of the future who is sign through this year and next.  By getting Dallas 2016 1st they can redraft a small forward to replace Oubre Jr.

Boston does this trade to gain Oubre Jr who we were targeting in the draft.  Great backup for Crowder or could take the start and put Crowder being the backup again.  Anderson and Neal and Nene all up at the end of the season.  Getting rid of the 1st clears up some of the extra draft picks for a needed position on a player we know can play.  Blair has one more year at 2 million but not sure if it's a team option or not.
