first, ainge is an above average drafter. his record shows that again and again. but no one, not even san antonio, bats close to .1000

This is a complete myth, particularly over the 2nd half of his tenure. What's worse, to try to throw in a direct comparison to San Antonio is downright offensive.

Ainge is a very good GM, but the draft is clearly his biggest weakness.

That's quite a myth -- an "above average drafter".  He wasn't suggesting Ainge was legendary or even very good.

Smart, Sullinger, Kelly, Hunter, Mickey, Rozier, Young.  Oh and Fab.  For the last 3 years that looks above average to me given his draft positions.  The myth of above average lives on.

I thought Portis was the smarter pick. Rozier is a riskier, long term play on a team with guard depth, so he wasn't gonna play anyway (which will make him challenging to develop). If that's the case, why not take Portis?

On a team lacking stars, Ainge clearly went for the guy who he thought had more of a chance of developing into a star but less of a chance of becoming a solid rotation player.

Stop defending Ainge. Here. Rozier does not have "star potential"

Portis doesn't either, but he's better than Rozier is.

Rozier was another knuckle headed selection from Ainge. I would have had no problem drafting Portis, Hunter and Mickey.

We could have declined to sign Jonas, and or Amir.

 And not traded for Lee.

Rozier hasn't shown any bball smarts yet but maybe it's rookie jitters.

People are "defending Ainge" because they feel that Rozier is/could be/could have been the better player.  It's way too early in both careers to say who will be better
I'm bitter.

Gotta disagree Rozier did look like he had star potential. And check my post before the draft on Portis. I was heavy in the Portis camp. It's not about defending DA it's about opinions on players. I really see potential in Rozier. Unfortunately he is burried.

I still say we should have drafted Justin Anderson or Montrezl Harrell. We could certainly use their athleticism and hunger on the court. They would have been crowd favorites. I disagreed with the Rozier  pick then and I will now. We should trade HOU  for Harrell and Nick Johnson.

IF, Rozier ends up Better than Portis I'll apologize to Ainge, but he will be the only one who felt that way.

Add to that Rozier is more of a combo guard or two guard, and when exactly is he going to play??

As of now he's behind Smart, Thomas, Bradley, Hunter, Young, and Turner.

That makes him seventh in the guard depth chart.

Next year if Turner goes elsewhere that puts him sixth. No playing time in sight.

He's had nowhere enough playing time to be able to make a sensible assessment of his merits.

I would have picked Portis, but with our glut at power forward we would probably be saying the same thing.

Well if IT was traded in a package (ex. IT, KO, Brooklyn 2017 pick, Cs 2016 and JJ for Favors). Rozier would be the backup PG.

Or if IT got injured

If IT got hurt, Smart and Turner are ahead of him.
