I like David Lee, always have.

He really hasn't played all that terrible this year. He is suffering from inconsistent minutes. Who knows if it is because his work ethic in practice, the forward logjam, injuries...But average wise he hasn't been terrible. In 16 minutes per game he is averaging 7 points and 4 rebounds a game shooting 47% from the field with a low turnover rate.

I've never been a huge Per36 guy but a lot of people around here are so his Per36 of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists are pretty good.

I don't think he fits with us as our lineup is currently constructed since we aren't very close to contending and he belongs on a contender. But he still is a nice presence to the youngsters on the bench, on the floor, and in the locker room.

But his defense...

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I'm sorry, but today's game vs. the Nets only reinforces how bad he is (regardless of the final outcome of the game). He can't do anything. Awful defense, missing easy inside shots - sometimes begging for the ball and then badly missing...

Please DA, end this experiment. Buy him out and give Mickey and the other bigs some run.
Doing Better than Wallace at the moment. TP DA.

I'd rather have Wallace sitting on the bench right now. If we're going to have a big guy who plays no defense and gets in the way of people, we might as well play our young bigs who can do that and not have a whiny vet getting in the way.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
What bothers me most about Lee is, he takes minutes away from KO, and Mickey. Lee has no future on this team, the C's should be looking high and low for a new home for him.

Yeah, I mean Mickey is the obvious candidate to get some minutes on this team, but I would love it if KO could go into every game knowing he would play at least 24 minutes. His game seems to rely on rhythm and confidence and I am not a huge fan of the way Stevens uses him. I get that he's not the next Dirk, but all of our bigs are just okay; why not give KO some extended run?

We need to stop trying to convince other teams that he's anything more than an insurance big. Give his playing time to Young & Hunter (give Crowder more minutes at the 4 and less at the 3 to do so), and Mickey.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

I was surprised with the mins DLee was initially allocated (let alone his statements that he was unhappy and wanted more playing time).

The situation now (well, he got 0 mins in the third game against Brooklyn) is closer to what I expected in the summer- I initially expected he'd get sthg between 5-10 mins.

I do hope he recovers his form after a series of mediocre games lately but I think at this stage he is who he is: a veteran who has gone thru several injuries, who still has offensive sparks but is below average in the D: he will be valuable in some games but I'd like to see Zeller return to the rotation.

For whatever it's worth:

Scott Souza ‏@Scott_Souza
#Celtics coach Brad Stevens: David Lee tweaked foot yesterday, but was available. Decision to sit him based mainly on rotation.

HOORAY!

Hopefully this is the end of the Lee experiment. Ideally I'd like to see Brad stick to 4 bigs instead of playing Amir, Zeller, Jerebko, Sully and Olynyk at the 4 and 5 spots.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Hopefully Lee stays glued to the bench except in case of emergency.  Seen enough by now to know he's not gonna help them win games, and it's doubtful any other teams are especially interested.

Where do you think Lee will end up after we buy him out in February?  Lee is obviously a bad fit here.  If he was a competent three point shooter and an adequate defender, he'd work better, but that's not his game.   He's still capable of putting up points and getting some rebounds, though.  WHich team could use him?   Anyone really weak at PF this year?

HIs per minute stats are basically even with what they have been all along.  Per-36 of 17 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block with 47% shooting and 78% from the line.   I can still imagine him starting somewhere.

A lot of you were saying he was our best player before the season started. I was not one of them.  I think Lee is fine though as a veteran guy who can b ring scoring, rebounding and depth if we need it.  He's fine. He barely plays.

it's actually a good thing imo. He hasn't hindered the progress of guys like Sully and KO. Amir has done an admirable job as a defensive guy in the middle.    It's worked out how we needed it to.

Lol I was one of them.   Who is our best player now, though?  Evan Turner?  Jae Crowder?   Thomas is still ok. Bradley has played really well in stretches.  Lee was a massive disappointment.

I still think Lee has game.  I think he's more or less the same player he was a couple years ago.  He's a bad fit with what Stevens is doing, I guess.
