This works on realgm.com tradechecker:

http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6642500

Why would we do this?

We are NOT even playing Zeller!!  Lee will likely NOT be back next year anyway!!  I know that Big Al recently had successful knee surgery, but he should be back in 6 weeks.  I know he evidently like marijuana and recently served a 5 game suspension.  But, we could welcome him back to Boston with open arms and see if he would embrace us as well and give it a try for the last two months of the year and perhaps he would consider re-signing at a reasonable price.

This also saves us $4.6 million this year.

Why for Charlotte?

They have really already moved on from Big Al.  They need some big men and quick.  Hawes is experiencing back issues and Cody is really NOT a center and Big Al is now out!!  I think that Cho knows that IF they do NOT make the playoffs this year, he is likely the fall guy (as unfair as that is)!!

Thoughts?

charlotte probably asks for sullinger, olynyk, or mickey instead of zeller.

not sure i want to part with any of those guys, especially mickey, who IMO will be a stud.

jefferson's TS% is on the decline, and his Treb% is on an even bigger decline.

add to that his poor defense, suspension, and health concerns, and i just don't see how he factors into the long-term plans here. and he's not putting us over the top this year, either. if we're going to trade young players, i'd rather it be for somebody with a future here.

Seems like a decent deal for both sides.  Charlotte gets to add two more white big men, which seems to make Jordan happy :P

No!

Out 6 weeks. Has regressed this season. Poor fit for Stevens' system. He'll be a FA, while Zeller would at least be restricted. I would say that given his age and style of play, Zeller will probably receive more insterest from teams than Big Al.

Seems like an obvious yes. Nobody around here really wants Lee anyway and Zeller is losing value by the day sitting on the bench. If Big Al is still good - and he should be since his game is predicated on awesome post moves, not elite athleticism - then we would have a go to scorer in the post that can rebound. We could always throw in a couple mid-2nds to sweeten the deal, too. Anything to consolidate and upgrade our roster.

Please remember that we would be giving up one player that has only played in 21 games at 8.6 minutes per game for a total of only 180.6 minutes and one guy that we acquired for Gerald Wallace's contract that has been a big disappointment!!!

Some of you act like I am proposing giving up two huge cogs in our team to get Big Al.

I am not.

Completely agree, and giving assets for expiring contracts which makes no sense to us.

That said, this is something worth considering in my opinion. Zeller's restricted free-agent status has some value for us, but the truth of the matter is that he's not being used. Lee, well that's no loss for us in the end.

At worse, we clear some room to give Mickey some playing time while Jefferson comes back from his injury (6 weeks estimated).

I'm an Al Jefferson fan, though his defense is highly questionable. But at this point so is Zeller's and Lee's.

I'd be willing to roll the dice with this package personally. Not sure if the Hornets do this at all, but worth considering. That said, I have huge concerns about Jefferson's health independent of whether he's currently injured or not. He's always hurt, that's the main thing above anything. But if the cost is Lee/Zeller, I think the risk is more than worth it in my opinion even if it doesn't pan out.

Big Al is in decline, no fit or future with this group.  The only thing I like about this idea is that it might free up some time for Mickey while Al heals.  It does not move the needle this year or in the future.  I would guess that Danny would prefer to hold on to Lee's salary for a bigger deal (doubtful but you have to be ready).

I appreciate Smitty77's ideas that he brings to this board.  Smitty keep the ideas, deals, up & comers coming!

This deal would kind of be a no brainer. CHA might value Zeller more than most as they have his brother.  At this point we are barely playing Lee and Zeller so the only reason not to go for a deal like this would be if there was a better trade with Lee's contract. But if a star became available we also have Amir's contract to trade.

Who knows how well Big Al would fit and play here but it's worht a shot. He can score in the post and that is something we lack. He also loved Boston when he was here and I seem to remember some comments about wanting to come back before so if he did fit we would probably have the upper hand on resigning him.

We don't want to wreck our chemistry for only slight improvements but I don't think a trade like this would. My guess is CHA would want a bit more in a deal. A 1st, even a late one might be too much. Maybe some 2nds or a pick swap or something like that could sweeten the deal and not really matter too much to us.

If he worked out well for us we would be a lot better as we would have a guy in the post that could command a double team leaving out guards open.

Zeller may be better than AL now. With AL declining and injured of course. Was a bug fan of Al but right now I pass unless C's get a pick.
