Noah, and the idea of picking up good players on expirings in general, makes a lot of sense for us. Someone like Noah could potentially take us to the next level and allow us to perhaps advance to the ECF and give Cleveland a respectable series. If it works out that way, it would be huge for our development as a team and make us a much more attractive free agent destination.
If it doesn't work out, we let him walk and use our money elsewhere. The worst case scenario is when he plays well and still walks, but even then we probably only lose out on a mid-first-round pick that we probably wouldn't have the playing time for anyway.
At the same time as this, we preserve the flexibility for a third option of letting Noah walk regardless and signing Durant and Horford to a double-max in the unlikely event that they agree to such a deal.
