Based on everything I've been hearing in Chicago Paul Gasol is on the market because they feel they need a skilled wing player. Thankfully we have an abundance of perimeter talent and the first player that comes to mind that would fit very well would be Avery Bradley. Once Marcus Smart comes back he could slip right in as the 2 guard. We could send a package of:

Chicago Bulls receive:
F/C Kelly Olynyk
SG Avery Bradley
G/F James Young
1st round pick (via Minnesota Timberwolves)

Boston Celtics receive:
F/C Paul Gasol
and
G/F Tony Snell

first off, his name is pau, not paul.

next off, he is 35 years old.

i have no idea why ainge would trade young and reasonably priced players for him. i also echo the doubts and questions raised above.

They should want an established SF who is an upgrade over Tony Snell and Doug McDermott.  You proposed giving them three players who do not fit that description.

Pau is averaging 16 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2.2 blocks in 31 minutes a game.  He instantly would be Boston's best player and plays at a clear position of need.  Bradley and Young are pretty repetitive and Kelly is pretty bleh in the scheme of things.  The Minnesota 1st isn't a great asset.  If Chicago actually does that trade it seems like a pretty good move for Boston.

He's still surprisingly very good, but he's old and a FA at year's end. Pass.

We need to be adding younger nucleus pieces - not Pau or Melo types.

Avery Bradley is also averaging 16 ppg, but with the added bonus of actually plating defense on top of it

Pretty scary trade from our side. I am a relatively big Pau fan, but am thinking Lee, Turner, and the Mavs first might be my highest offer. I would also like to know there is another move on the horizon to put us in 'contender' mode.

I am not sure I would trade AB or Kelly, nevermind both of them (along with Young and a potential first)

I don't want gasol. He is too old. Noah is also available.  I think you could get him for Lee and our 1st rounder. Might have to be a 3 way though. They could package our 1st rounder with McDermott for something.

One of the players has a DRTG of 102, the other is 96.  Why don't you tell me which one you think is the low one (i.e. better)?  Gasol's defense has always been significantly underrated.  He is blocking shots, getting rebounds, and scoring at an efficient rate.  He is also a center.  Last time I checked, Boston needed a center because you know Boston doesn't have a credible center on the roster.  Boston has like 5 credible SG's.  Adding Gasol and Snell for Bradley, Olynyk (a backup PF), a pick, and the worthlessness that is Young would make Boston significantly better this year.

I mean that is kind of the point.  Time to go or get off the pot.  Boston needs to pick a direction and go for it.  Either make the team the better and go for it or sell off and tank.  This middling crap just isn't a long term solution.

Why is it either or? Gasol isn't a young nor he is an Superstar. Selling cost controlled players for a player with limited years isn't very smart.

If we already had 2 in-their-prime stars, I'd love to add Pau.  Not now.

This middling crap just isn't a long term solution.

This "middling crap" hasn't even lasted a full season.  Ainge only fully completed the blow up of the previous roster last season with trades of Rondo and Green and basically nobody imagined the rebuild would be this successful, this quickly.

If you approach anything else in life with this same attitude, you would be the most miserable person alive.

Wrong. He has a player option for next year. He'll likely opt out to sign a longer deal.

cost controlled players is the standard these days.  Why not just get better players?  Lots of players are cost controlled, it doesn't mean you don't upgrade when you get a chance.
