Celtics, Sixers, Knicks Trade Idea

It's really not that far off, especially for something on a forum. It all coms down to IF the knicks want to move Melo at some point. I was hoping they would suck this year to make them want to but they are doing ok. They do have a lot of money and years owed to Melo but with the rising caps they probably don't care.

If they do want to move him, it is not a forgone conclusion that we would have to trade the nets pick. Why would we? Who else would offer a top 5 pick and be a team that Melo would go to?

A Melo to boston deal makes a lot of sense if at some point they see it as addition by subtraction. But, correct me if I'm wrong, they don't own their own pick this year so they have no incentive to rebuild.

I like the general idea here, and you can be sure Ainge has talked to both teams about the players you're trying to acquire. And I don't see the Cs giving up the BKLN pick this season for either player, unless it's top 2 protected.

But -- I can't imagine Ainge could trade for both of these players, and keep Marcus Smart on the team. I also don't think the Sixers want picks -- they want players. In other words, I suspect the Sixers would ask for Smart in a Noel deal, and likely lose interest if he wasn't in the cards. But I do think they'd strongly consider a package including Smart and Young.

The Knicks on the other hand presumably would want picks, should they choose to deal Anthony (which they should). Again, I cannot see Ainge dealing an unprotected pick for anyone who is not a superstar -- and Anthony no longer is. But I could see Ainge being willing to trade a package of lesser picks: say, the Cs 2016 1st, Dallas' 2016 first, and the Cs 2018 1st, along with Sullinger and Lee.

I'd support both. I've come to believe that Anthony would actually thrive here.

After thinking about it, the deal makes a lot more sense in the offseason.

For New York if they deal Melo in the offseason it is more likely they won't have to take back salary. It also allows the Knicks to move on from Melo in a year that they own their own pick. Philly would be dealing Noel in a year they are getting Saric to come over so Noel is less needed.

If I am DA I have absolutely no interest in Melo or Noel.

a simpler deal would be young, lee, jerebko, and the nets pick for carmelo. we get a star and a go-to scorer in melo, they get a shot at simmons and an increasingly decent-looking prospect in young. 

we could surround melo with shooters and defenders; his offense would free up smart, bradley, crowder, etc to really focus on defense. we'd be a very tough team, though i don't know if it would be quite enough to put us over the top. thankfully, we'd have plenty more trade assets and cap space to get another star, maybe two.

however, i think NY waits until the offseason to see if they can lure a star to NY to pair with melo. if they can't, our chances of landing him improve considerably.

To Philadelphia: Terry Rozier, James Young, Jared Sullinger, Boston first this year, Philly's own 2nd (via Boston)
To New York: David Lee, Evan Turner, Tyler Zeller, Maverick first this year, Minnesota first (probably two seconds), and Boston first in 2018
To Boston: Carmelo Anthony, Nerlens Noel.

Why for Philly: The Sixers have become an embarrassment to the league. Okafor and Noel don't fit together, if Embiid is miraculously healthy next year Noel becomes even more redundant. They get three young players to help them build, as well as picks to add to their asset pool.

Why for New York: Carmelo doesn't fit the Knicks rebuild, they need to get future assets for him. We are giving them two firsts and two seconds that they can use to surround Porzingis with young talented players. David Lee, Tyler Zeller and Evan Turner all get tryouts for the Knicks and can help them immediately around Porzingis.

Why for Boston: Carmelo is a great scorer who helps the team win now and attract other quality players in the offseason. Noel is an excellent defender who can set the team up to have an elite defensive foundation for years to come. We also don't give up any of the Brooklyn picks.

So when Ainge said the Cs could use a go to scorer, who do you think he was referring to? Don't think Anthony would fit what he's looking for, and arguably at the Cs weakest position? And try to come up with a more creative answer than 'Demarcus Cousins'.

Meanwhile, I don't consider Smart, Young, Sullinger, and three late 1sts to be a ton of assets. Cs have plenty more.
