What is lost here is that 3-point shot spreads the floor, allowing for there to be more post game. The lack of post game is not due to the existence of the 3-point shot, but rather a lack of good low post players or maybe poor playmaking, coaching.
You remove the 3-point shot, what you'll find is more defenses packing up the middle making it more difficult to have a post-up game.
What the 3-point shot did though is slowly kill of the importance of the mid-range game.
