13.7 ppg, 37% fg, 21% 3pt

those are horrible numbers , is it just due to lack of athleticism?

Rose has been done ever since he blew his ACL against Philly in the first round of the 2012 playoffs. He's never been the same player after that.

His eye injury. They are saying his court vision is pretty messed up.

If his eye issue is as bad as he says then I don't know how he plays at all but I don't know what to believe honestly.  Not someone to jump to doubting an injury but who knows.

We're used to a lot of players recovering now but some still won't the same way.  I find it hard to believe Rose can physically and also mentally play the same way he used to anymore after all he's been through.  He used to play such a reckless and aggressive style.

I don't think he'll get back to MVP form but with Butler emerging in Chicago, they really just need Rose to get back to being a solid PG.

I think his eye deal is really really bad.   I heard him said he sees double out of one eye a lot.

How in the devil can he even play ball at all if he is seeing double or should he EVEN be on the court for his own sake.

These eye issues have been going on a long time.

When has Rose ever had court vision of any kind?  The only 'vision' that he's ever had is of the tunnel variety, imo.  He was always grossly overrated, anyway, again, imo.  He's a sg in a pg's body with incredible athleticism who never passed the ball or made his teammates better, which is why Chicago was never a threat to Miami, because they knew that he would just continuously drive into 3-5 players, never pass, and turn the ball over or complain that he was fouled.  He's just never been a smart player, to me.  He could have been, and if he had taken a more cerebral approach to the game, then he could have been really scary and an all-time great, but he never changed his style of play.  Westbrook is the same way.  They're both far too selfish to be point guards, imo.  I mean, how many point guards shoot 7-25 in a game and just keep gunning ::)?  It's just not very intelligent, to say the least.  The only thing that Rose ever did that I liked was winning the MVP in 2011, deservedly so or not, because it denied Lebron the chance to join Russell, Chamberlain, and Bird as the only players to win 3 consecutive MVP's, lol, so I guess that I would have been happy with whoever won that award, as long as it wasn't Kobe or Wade .

Beat LA - to be honest I pretty much agree with most (if not all) of what you said here.  In fact I always felt that when Rose got the MVP, it was an absolute fallacy and a joke on the league.

The guy was always pretty much 100% dependent on his athleticism to be effectively - always had minimal skills and minimal basketball IQ.  Could never defend to save his life, could never shoot a jumper to save his life, average passer, average rebounder, very questionable attitude.

He was always a pretty good ball handler, and he was always skilled at finishing at the basket with contact - other than that he was just 100% athleticism and nothing else, which is why I knew the instant he got hit with the first major injury his career would be as good as over.

You look at Rondo for example, and even if he lost his athleticism he still has the elite court vision, the elite rebounding anticipation, the elite basketball IQ, the great hands - he has the intangibles to remain an effective NBA player.

Rose without athleticism is nothing.

In short: Yes. It's really sad to see. He peaked so young when he won that MVP and the injuries derailed what should have been a great career. He's going to be the first MVP ever to not make the hall of fame: that's crazy.

He's in a downward spiral right now, but I don't think he's done.

His eye injury has a lot to do with his current struggles. I think he'll return to be an important player in the near future, but since he's always injured, then that's a big question mark. Outside of that I fully expect for him to develop into a legit player once again.

Never been the same player and being done are two different arguments.

I think the orbital fracture has killed his jumper this year.  Rose is done as a superstar, and probably as a star too, but he can be a decent starting point guard if he gets his jumper back and continues to develop as a distributor.

He's got the size, skill, and floor vision to be valuable as a floor general with some occasional burst ability.  But that only works if he's got a jumper. If his jumper is busted for good, he'll be out of the league in a couple years.

This.

I think he's done as a superstar type of player and is going to have to continue to adjust his game based on his physical limitations.  Basically, acknowledge the fact that he's no longer an alpha dog player and focus more on being a facilitator & embracing a supporting cast role.

Ok.

He has never been the same player since his 2012 injury which caused him to be done as a legit NBA threat and impactful player.

Does that slight word change fit the criteria now? I mean we all get the point with this one.
