Count me in for Melo if he's had cheaply (he won't be) and in for DMC if he's available (he isn't).
From our side it's a cost issue. Personally, I'd trade the #1 pick in this years draft for DMC but I'm not sure I'd trade much more. KO + BKN 2016 1st for DMC is something I'd do today and on draft night. They would ask for Smart and probably either KO or Sully as well as salary dumping Gay. That would give me pause but I'd think about it. They'd have to take Lee and Amir to make the $ work.
Sacramento would admit to a rebuild and dump $27.5M of Gay's contract for $12M of Amir's while saving a year of paying it out. They get Smart and KO as young cheap contracts (at least one, probably two) high 1st round pick for DMC.
As for Anthony, he is still worth at least a mid-round first and expirings/filler. He is such a gifted scorer that he should age well, although likely not as the primary focus on a championship team. He needs a team around him that can allow him to play 30 minutes a night. I throw him in the same camp as Dwight Howard and Chris Paul: still great players that can't carry a team anymore. I'd give up the MAV's 2016 pick and some bodies/expirings for Anthony. NY says no but I wouldn't go any further than that for a guy who is going to wreck our cap situation for years and probably not get back in the MVP conversation before his career wraps.
Again I'd both expect and be happy for NY to turn that offer down. Considering that if the DMC trade happens they will want to salary dump Gay, I'd take that downgrade to save $13M/yr and an additional year of cap hell.
I'm more interested in getting DMC and building around him than surrounding him with expensive, aging stars.
