What do you guys think?

I would love to try to wait it out for Durant, maybe go after Barnes in RFA, or GSW tries to trade with us before the trade deadline. But it doesn't look promising.

Just wondering what the Knicks would take?

yes we do. Plus some

this is a good idea for tanking purposes to assure best possible chance to draft Ben Simmons

A Cousins/Melo is a pretty darn good team... At worst its the 2nd best team in the East, but... assuming we still had Smart, that team could possibly pull a playoff series against the Cavs.

Yes, Cousins and Melo are great players by Cousins and a good player now with Melo.  But this would be horrible for the Celtics.  You're wanting to bring in two players that don't want to play team ball.  You could turn Cousins in playing team ball because of the culture and he's young, you might have a chance to change him.  I wouldn't want Melo for anything.

Melo and DMC are above average passers for their position. Cousins and Melo if coached properly by Stevens, who I believe has enough talent plus experience to coach the two, they both can trust each other.

I don't get the notion where people think Melo is a ball hog. He's a ball hog, because his teammates have never ever been anywhere near the level that he is. I've watched plenty of games on the Knicks to see Melo pass it out to teammates who couldn't finish, or catch.

Count me in for Melo if he's had cheaply (he won't be) and in for DMC if he's available (he isn't).

From our side it's a cost issue. Personally, I'd trade the #1 pick in this years draft for DMC but I'm not sure I'd trade much more. KO + BKN 2016 1st for DMC is something I'd do today and on draft night. They would ask for Smart and probably either KO or Sully as well as salary dumping Gay. That would give me pause but I'd think about it. They'd have to take Lee and Amir to make the $ work.

Sacramento would admit to a rebuild and dump $27.5M of Gay's contract for $12M of Amir's while saving a year of paying it out. They get Smart and KO as young cheap contracts (at least one, probably two) high 1st round pick for DMC.

As for Anthony, he is still worth at least a mid-round first and expirings/filler. He is such a gifted scorer that he should age well, although likely not as the primary focus on a championship team. He needs a team around him that can allow him to play 30 minutes a night. I throw him in the same camp as Dwight Howard and Chris Paul: still great players that can't carry a team anymore. I'd give up the MAV's 2016 pick and some bodies/expirings for Anthony. NY says no but I wouldn't go any further than that for a guy who is going to wreck our cap situation for years and probably not get back in the MVP conversation before his career wraps.

Again I'd both expect and be happy for NY to turn that offer down. Considering that if the DMC trade happens they will want to salary dump Gay, I'd take that downgrade to save $13M/yr and an additional year of cap hell.

I'm more interested in getting DMC and building around him than surrounding him with expensive, aging stars.

Nope.

A guy has to be available... and a team has to want your "assets" over the "assets" of the other 28 teams.   As far as I know, neither Cousins or Melo is available... and even if they were, we don't know if those teams want a bunch of mediocre players and draft picks or would prefer established talent like Dwight Howard, Hassan Whiteside, etc.

So, nope.

If we had the assets to bring in Cousins and Melo, they would both be wearing Celtic green right now.

Yes = Melo won't fetch too much because he is old. So getting both guys is possible.

No because if you read the stories Melo doesn't want to leave NY.  It's a business thing for both him and his wife.
