I wouldnt bet on either winning in the next 5 years. I think we might be more serious contenders but it is really hard to win a championship. In the last 17 years we have had the
Pistons
Lakers
Celtics
Mavs
Heat
Spurs
Warriors win titles.
That is 7 teams over 17 seasons!
Go back to 1980. That is 35 seasons and there is a grand total of 9 champions. Which is an average of a new champion roughly every 4 years.
On top of that only the Pistons and arguable the Mavs won a title without a top 5 NBA player. The clippers dont have any clear avenue of improvement and the C's are without that top 5 player. As such Id give both teams a pretty slim shot. however I think the C's over the next 10 years (hopefully all with Brad) have a much better shot at bringing home a championship even if neither have favorable odds.
Also, Kobe and Shaq account for 6 of these titles, Duncan-Parker account for 5, Bird and Magic account for a combined 8. Lebron can claim 2 and now Steph 1. Dont forget Jordan accounts for 6. Of the 35 titles 28 were won by all-time top 20 or so NBA players (its a bit of a reach at Steph, but roll with it for me)
Since I dont think you can predict landing one then only GSW, Cleveland, SAS have a greater chance at a title. This leaves the other 27 teams vying for the 20% chance at a title without a legend.
Also this is leaving KG, PP, Isaiah #1, and Hakeem OFF of the legends list. If you include them then you are down to 3 titles won without legends. The Pistons, Mavs and someone else. I may have messed up the math.
