I've always loved watching the Orlando Magic play because of their young core and exciting play style. One name literally nobody is talking about in trade discussions is Andrew Nicholson. Kid is a straight beast.
Here are his per-36 numbers courtesy of Basketball Reference:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/n/nichoan01.html#per_minute::none

He was a former lottery pick that has began to blossom off Orlando's bench. I'm not exactly sure why he's never had the opportunity to start. Maybe because of his lack of opportunities with Harris and now Gordon or maybe the simple fact that he has been a relatively late bloomer. Kid is extremely fundamental with smooth footwork in the post and has nice jump hook that is tough to stop with his lengthy wingspan.

The biggest development so far for him is his ability to step out to the 3 and stretch out the floor for everybody else. At the moment he is knocking down 40% from behind the arc which is fantastic for a PF. He's also had a nice mid range game to accompany his new found stroke from behind the arc. Solid defender so not much to worry about there and has added enough meat to bump inside.

So, he's a very skilled, young player that's been buried on the bench, he's on a cheap contract and if we trade for him we attain the ability to extend him a qualifying offer for next year. He can be had without too much asset loss. I mean he is a PF and we have a logjam, but truth is Sullinger is an expiring deal and hasn't developed into the player we thought he could become. Nicholson actually can stay on the floor for 28-30 minutes a game because he doesn't have the same build so he can fulfill his per-36 projections. He hasn't been as injury prone compared to Sullinger as well. I think the only question is when is the trade going to happen??

He has improved I'd like to see a lot more of him before I target him though.

Applaud you for looking for a hidden gem. Skiles really likes him -- has given him new life.

Don't really see a good reason for either team to do a deal around him right now.

Nicholson was always an underrated prospect; unfortunately while he was a good rebounder/defender, his offensive game had so much work to do. Fortunately, Nicholson has put in the work, and his shots look a lot better. We'll see if it can remain consistent before he gets paid, which he most likely will.

TP for bringing up a nice target no else has heard of.

Could still see Harris traded.  There's a few guys like Middleton and Harris who were restricted free agents, but signed contracts this offseason with their original teams.  Those guys can't be traded until December or January.  I wouldn't be surprised to see some of those guys traded.  Their teams likely just wanted to lock them up so they didnt' lose them for nothing.

Middleton? Maybe. But can't see why Orlando wants to trade Harris.

Lol, the funny thing is you told me chances of that happening is unlikely.

I can see Orlando trading Harris, only if they feel like Harris doesn't fit their overall teams identity.

Meh. He's played 9 games this year. Hit double digits in three of them. He's already 25 and has degressed each of his three years in the league... I'd rather have Sully and KO playing the minutes he would take away.

Andrew Nicholson strikes me as an Ainge guy.

Trading Sullinger for Nicholson would be like trading a rich man's version of Glen Davis for a modestly wealthy man's version of Brandon Bass.

No thanks, and I hope Ainge wouldn't even consider that trade without at least receiving a pick(s) in return...

THIS!! I'd take Nicholson in a Harris deal.

I like Nicholson's game, but I just don't see us trading for him unless our logjam at PF is cleared via a larger trade. I think he'd be worth a solid 2nd round pick. Definitely wouldn't trade Sully for him...

Middleton getting traded is unlikely. But Orlando has no reason to trade Harris for something short of a pick we won't give up.

Why is is hard for peeps to undestand not every player is on the market, especially for our grab bag?

I see Nicholson as a guy who has mediocre overall stats, but solid Per-36 stats, which to me puts him in the same category as something like 70% of our roster.

Don't see much point in going after a guy like that.  We already have a milion young guys who seem pretty solid production in limited minutes.  What we need is guys who are proven to be able to put up consistently strong production in big minutes.

Nicholson, Jared Sullinger, David Lee, Kelly Olynyk, Amir Johnson - same old.

I have been noticing Andrew too.  He will be a RFA at the end of this year, and unfortunately the Magic (like most everyone else) will have plenty of cap room to match any offer if they so choose.

He's so far asleep he's in hibernation. A bit player who has less than half a dozen good games to rub together, and is duplicated by about just as many players on our roster. Typical CB overrreaction.
