We'd lose at least 5 more games though losing Amir inside.

doesn't bother me at all.  don't let the W/L record fool you.  the Celts still need to have the mentality of a rebuilding franchise, because that's what they are.

It should bother you.  One part of rebuilding is winning, specifically in the playoffs.  Last year was fun, but this year it'd be nice to at least win a few games, if not a series.  Winning and rebuilding are not mutually exclusive.

I like Oubre, obviously, as I started this thread.  But we don't need to tear down the roster any more.  Trading a useful player who can't get off the bench for a future asset is fine.  Trading rotation players for rotation players who fit better is fine.  Trading rotation players for developmental prospects is a stage of rebuilding we've moved past.

Seems like a win-win for both sides. As others have said, I would rather insert Young in for the 31st pick, but we would have to make salaries work. It's funny that an unnamed GM last year said Young would have been a top 10 pick in this past draft - too bad Danny didn't turn that into something.

It's not that I hate Young, it's just that we would basically be replacing his spot with Oubre while essentially opening up a roster spot for Mickey. It's fun to shuffle parts, but still waiting for the big shoe to drop - this would just be another step toward making this team better, though.

The Wizards are struggling, and among their many problems is someone to give them solid minutes at the 5 behind Gortat.  Their solution this week was to sign Ryan Hollins. Meanwhile, we have a perfectly capable backup center who can't get off our bench in Tyler Zeller. Seems like a potential match!

Boston gets:
Kelly Oubre Jr.

Washington gets:
Tyler Zeller
2016 Philly 2nd rounder (almost assuredly #31 overall).

I don't imagine Oubre would be a contributor this year, outside of garbage time, but he has the potential to be useful in the long run.  Wizards, meanwhile, want to put their best foot forward for Durant this season, and Oubre isn't going to help them in that endeavor.

I love this deal from our side. Would Washington go for it? Not so sure. Oubre is a high-risk but high potential reward guy.

Still, that Philly pick should be very popular. No guarantees? Beats any of the last five picks in the first round.

but wait... we'd lose 5 full games due to Johnson alone? I think that's a stretch, not that I'm advocating trading him (I'm not).

EDIT: Olynyk would likely replace him, so that's quite possible. Nevermind. (and seriously, I did actually post this, consider it, then come back and edit it)

Im extremely for this. If Washington says Yes then I take the deal and run. Thats essentially getting a first rounder (Better than our pick last year) for Zeller and a Second.

My only worry is that Oubre wouldn't get any playing time. He's a SG/SF. Our Depth chart at that position looks like this:

SG: Smart, AB, Hunter
SF: Crowder, Turner, Young

Meaning that if we did pick him up, he would essentially be doing the same thing is Zeller. SITTING ON THE BENCH.

If we have a nice consolidation move in place (3 for 1) then getting Oubre would be a great side deal. I still think the kid can be good, just needs the right coach ;)

Well the main reason you'd take Oubre is because of his youth and his contract+years under control. Zeller is a restricted free agent this offseason.

Even if Oubre sits on the bench, we'd still have him for 3 more years under rookie contract.
right, because that's why everyone values James Young so highly --> he's young and cost controlled for  2 more years and gets to sit on our bench.  ::)

Thankfully is this scenario we have physical evidence that Oubre can actually play NBA minutes before we acquire him. We were gambling on Mr Young and the house may have won :D

Agreed. Ombre's already looked far better in his NBA career than Young has.
need to set a higher bar than Young's NBA career to justify the trade.  bottom line is that I haven't seen anything all that special from Oubre that suggests he'd do anything but sit on the bench (which was his  'selling' point mentioned earlier) and that's a poor reason for a trade especially when giving up someone who's shown they are rotation-quality at a position that's thin in the NBA

To even come close to get Ouber we'd have to give them Tyler Zeller, James Young and a 1st round pick.  To even get them to listen to the idea of giving up their 1st round pick of last year.  Plus the fact the Celtics wanted to draft him, they would know we'd give up more.
