It's a match up thing wouldn't read too much into it.
Yeah this is what ESPN says:

Quote
Spin: Noel is the usual starter for Philadelphia but is being benched in favor of Robert Covington to take advantage of a lineup change made by Indiana. Noel isn't likely to see a minutes reduction off the bench, he'll simply play with the backups to start the game.

Noel has struggled a bit at the start of this season, though.  He finished last season averaging 14.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 2.4 steals on 50% shooting. in March... and so far this year he's averaging 11.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.8 steals on 40% shooting... I don't know how much of that is him trying to play out of position next to Okafor, or the fact that he missed a couple games recently with sore wrists or what, but he hasn't looked as good.   Philly should trade him for a quality PF like Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk who would look better next to Okafor.  Sell high, Philly... before he regresses even more!  lol

Excellent. If they determine that Noel and Ok can't play together long term we may be able to snag one.

Have a feeling the 76ers are going to ask for the moon regardless.

Indeed.  Getting Noel would require trading the 2016 Nets pick, at a minimum.

I wouldn't trade either the 16 or 17 Nets picks for him. Besides, the 16 free agent class is going to be pretty stacked with bigs we could target (Whiteside, Mozgov, etc.).

Most likely. I guess we have to wait until Noel hits free agency.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I would not mind having a guy struggle like that for us.    We got no one who gets blocks at that rate though Amir is not that shabby at 1.2 BPG.

Seriously, it is a bad team he is playing for, I think he would shoot better here.   We would have better talent around him to make their D play honest.

That's basically what I've heard Zach Lowe say... on a better team, he'd excel.  He supposedly worked on a jumper this summer which hasn't really paid dividends this year, but he's 21 years old and as a defensive anchor, there aren't a lot of guys with as much potential.  I'd love for him to be in Boston.

Especially if Embiid ever comes back healthy.   It's a good problem for Philly to have, though.  Three potential franchise players at the most coveted position in the league.  It'll be interesting to see when they inevitably bite on an offer and what the team looks like a few years from now.

It is a bit ridiculous to call Embiid a potential franchise player at this point. It is a lot more realistic to call him a potential NBA player, and that is being generous.

agreed - at this point Embiid has to see the court just to show he's not Oden 2.0 never mind an all-star or even a Franchise player.

In this case, Danny would probably be the one to hang up and laugh.

Noel is good, and I see him as a top 10 talent.  I don't see him as a top 5 talent though, and that pick definitely has top 5 potential.

Btw, Noel actually DID end up starting last night despite the rumor.   He had a pretty poor game and was limited to 23 minutes, though.  Sounds like he's dealing with knee pain and will miss his next game:

Nerlens Noel has been dealing with "some knee problems with some tendinitis," according to Sixers coach Brett Brown.

He is also now quite behind on development.

It actually wasn't a rumor, as Coach Brown was the one that said he wasn't starting . Things changed when the Pacers decided to go big and start Lavoy Allen. Kind of says something when you're now an option to being pulled in and out of the starting lineup based on matchups.

He didn't just have a poor game, he was atrocious. Allen and J Hill were dominating him on the boards and he air balled a top of the key midrange jumper so bad that it was not only wide  left, but also short. I actually saw the first half (disclaimer: draft kings) and not simply going off of a box score that has him finishing with 3 pts and 2 reb in 24 minutes.

Total disservice to Noel playing him as a retch 4 (I see what I did there). And to make room for an inferior prospect in Okafor (IMHO).

Hate what Philly is doing to their own team and their own prospects. Year 3 of a mega-tank and they can't/won't put a watchable product on the floor.

I'd be offering a Smart/Mickey package for Noel about now.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I'd be doing KO, Philly 2nd, and either Dallas or C's own pick for Noel. Wouldn't go any higher. Noel may want out and his play is showing it or Okafor and Noel doesn't work.

I would trade neither Smart nor the 2016 Nets pick for Noel.  Which means it'd probably be a non-starter.

I think I might offer something like Rozier, Hunter, the 2016 Mavs pick and the 2018 Nets pick for Noel.

Smart, Noel, and the 2016 Nets pick as the primary building blocks for the future.  That'd be my goal, if I were going after Noel.
