I'm trying not to over react but after getting the rotation set over the last 5 games the C's have been really good. Beating 4 probably playoff teams by an average of 15.75 points.

The Celtics currently have the 6th best point differential in the NBA, while having played the 10th most difficult schedule. They are 4th in the NBA in defense, 5th in effective field goal percentage against and first in turnovers forced.

While the defense has been excellent the offense has struggled due to some really poor shooting. Despite this the offense has kept its head above water by getting the 5th highest percent of offensive rebounds in the NBA.

I expect some mean reversion with the turnovers and offensive rebounding, however I expect the same mean reversion to occur with our 3 point shooting since everyone on the C's (besides Sully and Jerebko) is shooting under their career average from 3.

Honestly, at this point this team looks like every bit the squad that projection models predicted to win in the high 40's/low 50's.

Please let me know how you feel about the team at this point and if your opinion has changed since before the season.

Injuries may get in the way (sully, amir), but I think high forties is reasonable. Shame the east is so much stronger this year...

We definitely won some tough games in this stretch. We get to play the Nets and 6ers a few times in the next stretch of games so we should keep putting wins together. It seems like we're really punishing teams that rely on their guards which is fortunately a lot of the mid-upper tier teams in the league.

I love the heart, tenacity, and depth of this team. But i still can't see us making it out of the 1st round of the playoffs without a trade of some sorts.

We look pretty good. And aside from a rough start we have looked pretty good for a while now. So far this year the 1 2 and 3 sport have been what I expected. As far as the bigs Sully has surprised me and the others are a little bit less that I thought they would be so I guess I'd say we are about where I thought we would be minus the number of blowouts or lack of close games.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Originally I thought 44-46 wins.

Really hard to tell at the moment but we could be 41 wins and we could be 50 wins.
I think it's more likely to be closer to 50 but an injury to Smart, IT or Crowder would really hurt us in key spots.

I think we can confidently say a realistic goal would be to make the playoffs in the 6th/7th seed with a very good shot at making the second round of the playoffs.
For that to happen we need to stay healthy.

We need to play better teams to understand how good we are.

Raptors, Spurs and Pacers are key challengers (and we lost to all three).  Teams that can shoot, able to put mobile defenders on our bigs for example have caused hell for us so far.

Also if they have a super player like George. A stud SF has given us all kinds of issues so far

I'm sticking to the 47 wins I predicted earlier.
The play-offs will be another story...

It's still early but I had them pegged for about 40 wins.  they're playing about as well (slightly better in fact) than I expected.  I think what's playing a sizable part in the team's record is that the teams that have better rosters (on paper) aren't playing up to the level that they should be.

If we can stay in the top 4 defensive teams we have a good shot at scraping 48-52 wins.
We also need to shoot at least 35% from three which is hard.

We just don't know how good Smart will be this year and the level of his play is plenty enough to impact 10 wins in an 82 game season that he's not there.

Our goal should be to stay in the top 5 defensively and top 12 offensively which is realistic.

Add Cousins

Good enough

To end LeBrons domination of the East.

After that we beat Wiz, Bucks, Hawks, and last night Thunder. 2 former and likely repeating playoff teams and an up and coming (yet under-performing) teams in the east, as well as one of the top 3-4 teams in the west eve without KD.

The two Pacer losses hurt though. We should be able to beat them. I understand losing to the Raps and Spurs.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Had them pegged to end up somewhere in the 43-47 win range.  Still sticking with that for now.

These last two games, they've looked much better.

We've had the 10th most difficult schedule in the league so far. When we played Atlanta they were 8-2 and second in the East, on the season they have a better record than the Pacers and the Raptors. Even though we played OKC without Durant they still are a playoff team in the West without him. Washington was 4-1 when we beat them.

You can't just ignore the good teams we beat and point out the good teams we lost two then say we haven't played any good teams.

Smart plays the way he did last night, which he is more than capable of, and this team will be scary. IT-Smart-AB is a great guard rotation, add in Sully playing like a competent big, good complimentary pieces and nice bench. Reminds me of the Suns a couple of seasons ago
