He'll be better this year because he's being more aggressive, he obviously has skills and is a mismatch opportunity. Would like to see him shoot over smaller players more rather than try to back him down where he's actually at a disadvantage in handling the ball vs smaller players. Though advanced stats like his defensive rating may overstate his effectiveness, they indicate a much better player than most posters here, including myself, would acknowledge.

He can play .....same Jeff Green ......if the mood hits him .

Olynyk is a more polished and skilled player with higher offensive upside than Green.

the one thing I can't get over with this guy is that he either forgets or doesn't realize he's a 7 footer. the shots he passes up because he's afraid to get rejected tend to lead to a forced contested shot by another player just because KO doesn't want to be the one to look bad.

what's worse is when he won't take the shot when a 2 has to pick him up. I think this is the one thing KO should focus on improving because it's the most fixable thing.

Bruce Bowen used to cover Dirk a lot and it gave him fits, it puzzled me that Dirk would have to use a spinning fall away jumper to get a shot off against him.

Either way KO needs to be more consistent.

Sure, and what he is is a very skilled big man who belongs as an important part of the rotation for a team that should be a legitimate playoff contender.

Personally, I think he still has room to improve, but even if he doesn't, what's wrong with what he is for a late lottery pick?

Agreed. He showed a lot last night... less hesitant than I've ever seen him. And he made a lot of good decisions (minus one). Fortunately, we have plenty of time to wait for KO to develop, and he wouldn't be having these sporadic, yet very solid games, if he wasn't a solid NBA player.

Look at it this way... when he plays poorly, he's often still a plus on the court due to his shooting ability at his position. Worst case scenario, on any given night, he opens up the lanes for our guards that struggle to penetrate without the added help. That's a nice problem to have.

I don't think kelly has played poorly this season.  He's shot poorly, but his overall game is visibly better.  He's rebounding with some force, grabbing the ball better, his defensive effort is consistent, and he is aggressively looking to create offense (the step back) and is taking the 3 when it's there.  Not the same KO.  As with AB, shooting consistency is the variable that will determine whether they remain decent rotation guys or all-star candidates in the next 5 years.

if every guy that defended KO was on the level of bruce bowen defensively I wouldn't have as much of a problem. KO will not shoot if there is someone within shouting distance of him, regardless of the player, short, tall, weak defenders - doesn't matter.

it sucks because the team works to get those shots only for him to pass 'em up and the possession ends up being a mess and a waste.

Waiting around for the PERFECT open shot or pass ......is also bad play.

You need to take the ball and make something happen on the court .

You wind up losing the game " waiting " for your shot .

You go get it.

I think he has been trying to take more shots.   The trouble is earlier in the year they were not falling.   Last game he was lights out.

It's exactly the opposite actually.  He's a consistently positive contributor to the team even when he doesn't look good or put up good individual numbers.
