I don't want to see any combination of Lee-KO-Sully-Zeller playing at the same time. I'd rather see Mickey get some minutes than see our unathletic front-court get abused in the paint. Among these players, Sully is the best I saw working hard on the defensive end so far.

I think the issue with our bigs is that we can't have two bigs on the court at the same time that don't space the floor.

Zeller hasn't been able to score so far because he only scores off shots created for him by others. Our starting lineup doesn't have enough shot creators to make playing Zeller worthwhile.

Lee hasn't been great because he no longer has enough lift to finish in the paint. He is 5-20 from the floor on the season and it's not because he's been taking bad shots.

Our 4 rotation bigs should be Johnson, Olynyk, Sullinger and Jerebko in that order.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Sigh. People on these forums will never get tired of deifying "athletic" dudes sitting at the end of the bench.

Hard to produce when you are only getting 6 minutes of playing time...Makes me sick to watch how Zeller is being benched...

Thats why we should have traded them and taken a chance on someone with some dam potential on both ends.

I see no reason for David Lee to play at all if he isn't going to contribute significantly more than he is doing at this point. His defense is terrible. Worst on the team. Offensively, he has clearly lost a fair bit of quickness and he was slow for a PF even before this. No lift. Struggling to finish against length around the basket. Reluctant to shoot the jumper. Olynyk, Sully and Jerebko all provide more shooting. Olynyk and Sully comparable or better passing. Jerebko more quickness and movement. All 3 are out-working Lee on defense.

I think David Lee should be used almost exclusively as a center at this point in his career. He doesn't have the quickness / overall athleticism required to start at the PF position anymore. His skill level as a high post offensive center still has some value. Unfortunately, Olynyk offers the same thing with an even higher skill level so Lee doesn't offer the roster much at the moment.

I have no problem playing unathletic dudes who can ball. But outside Sully and Amir, none of our bigs provide toughness in the paint. Both KO and Zeller always get pushed around by stronger bigs. Athleticism is a least concern over toughness.

I would go

PF - Jerebko, Sully or Olynyk
C - Amir, Zeller or Olynyk

Then use Mickey as the 6th big. I'd like to get more Mickey more minutes but it is difficult with so many rotation caliber bigs in front of him. I think Mickey is still quite raw on defense despite his obvious upside on that end of the floor. So I am okay with Mickey sitting for now but on another team with less rotation caliber bigs in front of him, Mickey could get minutes straight away as a bench PF.

It would be nice if we could trade someone and free up some minutes for Mickey.

Not looking like Olynyk or Sully have long term futures here anyway.

That's the funny thing, we've got so many rotation bigs but I'm not sure a single one of them has a future here.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
The problem so far is that Zeller and Lee:

*haven't scored
*haven't defended
*haven't rebounded

I'd rather see Amir and Olynyk or Amir and Sully for a change.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think this is true.   This was true last year.   We lack star power.

Celtics can do ok playing the mainstream league teams win or,be competitive.

Celtics run out of talent against the Cavs , Spurs , Clippers etc.

Danny is gonna have to use his assets and nab a star ...of he wants to play on the level with the contenders
